Germany Bans ISIS Propaganda And Symbols In Order To Stop Recruitment

Of course Germany has no 1st Amendment as we know it, so it can get away with passing hate speech laws. Many U.S. extremist organizations would be banned in Germany, and Holocaust denial is a felony that will land you in prison. Personally, I think these type of laws are unnecessary since we already have laws to deal with treason, sedition and incitement. The bottom line is that if you don't believe in freedom of speech for people you despise, you don't believe in freedom of speech at all.

More than 100 jihadists are back in Germany including "some with combat experience who have learned to hate", he said

Banning it just sends them farther under ground and out of site it would seem to me.
So Germany arms the kurds we arm some Syrians and Iraq's and also get in bed with Iran.
While the Russians arm Syria, Lybia and Iran?
England and China arming someone.
What could possible go wrong here.

we have our own limitations on freedom of speech
especially in cases of incitement and threats of violence, which is what ISIS propaganda encompasses

All of our limitations on free speech have to do with public safety and treason (eg. yelling fire in a theatre, inciting riots, child porn, etc.), we don't try to stop people from hating. It's one thing to say "I hate [fill in the blank] people" but quite another to say "Let's kill [fill in the blank] people".

ISIS propaganda is more than just hating for hate's sake. They are actively trying to to recruit German citizens to kill people both abroad, and likely in Western Europe. There's a legitimate public safety consideration here. I appreciate what you're saying about defending speech but I won't be shedding any tears over this law. Germany tends to have very strict laws on these sorts of things, such as a ban on Holocaust denial.

Totally agree.
However, here in the US, if we don't agree with someone, we send the IRS after them, or use "political correctness" to shame them into silence.
