Nobody should be cheering for the AfD. Yes they oppose immigration but they also support Russia and cutting defense spending by Germany. That hurts NATO while helping NATOs most likely opponent. Since the USA leaving NATO is never going to happen, AfD winning means more American tax dollars will be spent to protect Germany.

I used to be more enthusiastic about AfD but they would immediately pull away from the US and pull closer to Russia if they were in power. They are not going to be friends of the US even though the US is about the only foreign nation that has stood up for them.

Its about half correct. The part about moving closer to Russia and wanting to buy Russian gas is true. They want us out of Germany, but they can cynically say that knowing we'd just move eastward into Poland and continue to act as their free shield.
