Eastern Germany are essentially MAGA and where the least amount of migrants have gone to.
This makes me wonder how many of those migrants voted in western Germany and how much that influenced these results.

Read further down.
I realized later that my point was not clear in the first post.

Ex Commies never want to go back to communism!

explain this to me. is the east german side going for the conservative party and the western side more progressive? is that what i'm seeing?
The former East Germans voted largely for the more Nationalist party. They are not necessarily "conservative" in the American sense on most issues, much like the Nationalist-type party in France led by le Pen. If you remove the xenophobia, those parties are generally as far Left (at least) as a mainstream Democrat.
The black/gray areas in former West Germany are for their version of a Center-Right party, though (again) their concepts of Left and Right do not align perfectly with American concepts.

communism enjoyed sigificant support in the former GDR after unification. the old SED has several offshoots that still get support primarily in eastern germany. and the BSW, a far left-wing populist movement gets most of its support from states in the former east.
my guess is that the CDU, CSU, and SPD never really appealed to people in the former GDR, and they never really had non-left parties that catered to them - there is still discrimination (or at least an air of superiority) against "Ossis" by the smug "Wessis".
i think AfD is popular because they are indeed providing an alternative for folks in the east. "Ostalagie" or nostalgia for the old GDR is still a thing and the divisions that were ostensibly erased by reunification are still very much there.

well right, there are political parties and then there are political ideologies.
i would call the majority of "Ossis" socially conservative but economically liberal. a combination we really don't see in the states!

They did, though, double their standing from the last election, and the two most-right parties (out of 7-8 parties that ran) got 50% of the vote.
Good breakdown, but left out how CDU, who will be the Chancellor, has vowed to not work with AfD, at all. So the mostly "Right" getting 50% really means nothing when the majority of the "Right" will work fully with the far-left instead of the more Right side.

DANG!
You’re right. I had “Alles” stuck in my head from one of those hit pieces I referenced.
Fixed. Thanks.

True, and it’s not exact or all that close in proportion, but just think how many in the GOPe turn on Trump when it’s convenient. They will team up when it suits their purpose, or they may even be outright refuseniks, but there is a healthy element in the GOP that hates Trump and would be prime candidates for aligning with other parties if they had more than two to choose from.

The poorer, less developed, less religious, formerly communist part of Germany supports the anti-establishment party.
The richer, more developed, more religious part of Germany supports the establishment center party.

Ostalagie doesn't mean people are longing for the return of the Stasi. It means a nostalgia for the popular culture of the old GDR.

Yes. Former East Germany citizens, many who actually lived under communism, want no part of authoritarianism again, no matter what pretty package it comes wrapped in. They recognize it.
Meanwhile, West Germany (along with many Western European nations) have hitched their wagons to 21st Century “Liberal Democracy” which doesn’t take kindly to disagreement of its goals. These modern Western elites admire the CCP blend of authoritarian capitalism and a “one world order”.

Yes. East Germans, familiar with how commies work, chose the conservative candidates.

Same with Cubans and Venezuelans in America. Many Americans take their freedom for granted and cite accordingly.
Those exposed to tyranny make much better voters and can sniff tyranny disguised as “cradle to grave” support.
