Put aside the fact that it’s not free and someone is paying for it etc.

My biggest thing that is never brought up is, people with degrees earn more money. That is a fact. But they earn more money bc a college degree sets someone apart as an applicant for a job. If everyone has a college degree than what is the worth of that degree? You basically are watering down everyone else with a college degree which wouldn’t mean shite at that point. Who gets richer?

The universities and for what a degree that wouldn’t be worth the paper it is written on. More debt for everyone. Sounds like a great idea

I'd be ok with WIDELY increasing Pell Grant opportunities and relaxing the standards in exchange for drastic tuition cuts or ROI based tuition.

I like Tucker Carlson’s suggestion from last nite. (Private) Universities take responsibility for charging six figures for a degree by co-signing student loans. p

You think a gender studies degree is worth six figures Yale Admin? Put your money where your mouth is.

This is the plan that Republicans need to get behind.

Increase the max Pell Grant to $8000 for freshmen and sophomores and $12000 for juniors and seniors. Max of four years. No more than 12 hours withdrawn or F.

Create two levels of grant accepting institutions. Level I has a reported average salary of more than 150% of the average in the state where they are located. Level II is under.

Level II institutions are simply not Pell eligible.

I'd rather my tax dollars go to that than 75% of what they actually go to.

Even if college was completely free for everyone, easily 50% of those that would go to college would be better off going to trade school.

Exactly. We've been making the mistake of letting 18 year olds make decisions with tens of thousands of dollars. Some adults need to take control and offer common sense options with viable outcomes. If you can afford that 210k English degree from Brandeis, good for you. If not, it's not my problem to get it for you.

I mean it's the same for elementary school, middle school, high school, etc.. It's daycare where kids learn a little, and are probably brainwashed along the way. Either abolish the Department of Education or give incentive to make better grades in high school. You front the bill w/loans through your basics (or a year of trade school), and if you hit a passing GPA without academic academic suspension and declare a major, we can foot the bill for the final two through undergrad (or final year of trade).

I think that is common ground that might satisfy those wanting "free" college and give enough incentive to not piss away your freshman/sophomore years.

First you just needed a high school diploma. Then a college degree. Currently it's a masters degree. Before my kids are grown it will be a doctorate I'm sure.

70% of my daughter's tuition is covered by scholarships, and still, the cost is enormous.

1. Stop the scam of federally secured college loans altogether.

2. Start tracking students like a motherfricker around age 10.

3. Prepare a work-readiness curriculum on a state level that partners with local employers to give average and below average students OTJ experience in a variety of fields: retail, sales, trades, etc with a goal of 100% first time job placement by age 18 (ideally with 1-2 years experience already).

4. Outlaw the ability of employers to require a college diploma for any specific position. Ideally by federal statute, but if a Constitutional Amendment is necessary, so be it.

They'll frick that up terribly. They already spend all their time prepping students to pass standardized tests instead of teaching them shite they can actually use in life.
