Since my flippant comment didn’t get the point across, I’m saying you are a fool if you are basing your idea of Australia’s military capabilities on their domestic COVID policies.
I trained alongside their military. They are some great guys. But they have some major issues at the moment. Hell, their government has pretty much sold most of their ports to Chinese “companies.” That includes a couple right next to their bases, including Darwin.
Their government is all sorts of fricked up, and sadly that has bled into their military hierarchy.
You can downplay it if you like, but they have MAJOR fricking issues going on down there.
ETA:

The Chinese operator of the Australian port of Darwin on Wednesday defended the company's investment as "purely commercial," rejecting security concerns that spurred Canberra this month to launch a review of its 99-year lease. The lease deal, worth 506 million Australian dollars ($392.44 million), has come under focus amid a drastic cooling of relations between Beijing and Canberra. The U.S. military uses a naval base close to the port and Washington has complained about the Chinese presence since Australia's Northern Territory signed the lease with Landbridge Group in 2015.
Australia has issues

Biden was going to inform France in advance of the deal, but it slipped his mind.

What does any of that have to do with France? Or the fact that the war was a mistake?
The war wasn’t a mistake. What it has to do with France is that it wasn’t that they refused to be sucked into it, they actively undermined the US before, during, and after the war to the detriment of the soldiers fighting it. Knight for them if you like, but they view us like a shite stain on their underwear unless we are in the process of saving their asses.

Also, the French killed more Germans in the Battle of France than any other Western ally combined until the Normandy landings. The surrender monkey trope is stupid and ignorant.
Wowzers. The French managed to kill 27,000 Germans in a little over a month before they surrendered their country and their people to the ravages of Hitler’s Nazis. Impressive.

You folks do realize this hail Michigan character comes on here just to pull your chains. If you just ignore it, it will soon lose interest and move on.

It certainly was for Saddam Hussein. Maybe he shouldn’t have begged for it.

Hmmm...I thought the Slow One was supposed to make the world love us again. What happened?

I don’t remember allies recalling ambassadors from the US under Trump and Trump had extremely negative media coverage.

Of course slo joe came in and immediately started sucking that Iranian dick again.

Yes, they know how weak and stupid the US has become!

By the way, let’s keep this in mind: France is our oldest ally. We wouldn’t have a country if it weren’t for them, and they wouldn’t have theirs if it weren’t for us on two separate occasions. That’s bad if they withdraw their ambassador.

You’re talking about the execution of the war, which was shite, just like every war we’ve been in since WW2. That has absolutely no bearing on the fact that Saddam Hussein all but openly begged for war with the US, and needed his arse kicked.

As long as it was American soldiers dying, and American taxpayers footing the bill, right?

You aren’t seriously implying that France will do anything beyond furiously clutching their pearls as China destroys Taiwan and Hong Kong, are you?

What I don’t get is...why?
Australia had to know that this action may have doubled (or tripled) the timeframe for delivery.
My take, either this appeases Xi, as they view Australia is even weaker than thought,
or
Australia has privately capitulated to Xi.

Just to appease my curiosity, did you serve? If so, which branch?

We should have ever been involved in WW1 or WW2

You aren’t curious. You think having served has some bearing on the validity of someone’s opinion, and that is horseshite.
I had a ship date to Parris Island in 1988, but a catastrophic knee injury playing football ended their interest in me. I tried to go Navy, but they wouldn’t take me either. Now, let’s see if it’s just your curiosity that needs satisfied.
