If the U.S.’s unilateral action (bilateral with Israel?) against Iran was actually carried out under the auspices of a UN mandate, your argument against me would actually hold water. The fact of the matter was that it wasn’t. That’s why my initial statement was not a straw man.

This is where the U.S. says: OK France and whoever else.....go enforce your sanctions. We are out....and by the way Iran, it isn't us.....we will honor our deal. Probably a good time to leave the UN, or start another group....

The point of the thread is that France did nothing to to assist when the US finally decided, after decades of UN diddling, to take action in pursuit of those goals. In fact, France actively obstructed the US efforts by refusing to allow overflights.

Then why did the US create a deal where France had to approve, should be your concern.

And that wasn't a straw man, FWIW

I didn't have France having bigger balls than the US on my 2026 bingo card.

Point of fact. Much of the sanctions on Iran are not “American sanctions.” The USA can’t unilaterally terminate them.

You misinterpreted 'chutzpah' as 'huevos', of which France has none.

When France of all countries expresses reservations on agreeing to anything because “the deal” isn’t perceived as being tough enough on Iran.

At this point Trump should come out and say that the UN will not be involved in any agreement thay comes out of discussions. It will be an agreement between the US and Middle East countries and enforced by those countries.

France and the UNSC can get fricked.

No, only the permanent members of the Security Council have veto power.

That would require an entirely new MOU. I'm sure Iran would want even more from that
