Again they have taken us for granted for decades.

I agree with this & I agree with Trump’s push to hold everyone accountable for defense spending quotas in his first term.

IMO breaking up the alliance risks unintended consequences at global scale and might be an overreaction. Would be uncharted waters post WWII.

Is pouring money into an program that will bail on you when you need them actually worth it?

Another aspect is that France and Italy have bases in both the Gulf and Horn of Africa. Assuming Spain has at least some sort of sharing agreement because they’ve had anti-piracy missions there before.

If that checks out, the correlation between nations that have made these “no overflight” or “can’t bomb from our soil” statements have assets in drone/missile range is 1:1. They’re just trying to prevent being targeted.

We shouldn’t violate their sovereignty. But we should also penalize them where we can.

On its face no. I just think that’s overly simplified read of the current situation.

The best pragmatic argument I can make is that we’ve seen what happens to our economy when the global economy is stressed. US military backing of a major peacekeeping alliance is in our own direct interest.

Thought this was the best point indefatigable made

The alliance operates on good faith. We aren’t obligated to support offensives of other member nations either.

With one exception.

Those so called allies aren't trustworthy.

Why tell them your going to whack a muzzie country?

Even if we did, we’re still stuck being Israel’s cucks.

If you want direct military support from them during the offensive phase, it does make a lot of sense.

I think we trust all the member nations in terms of intel. We were sharing intel prior to the military campaign.

Israel is not a member nation & Netanyahu provided the intelligence that lead to the initial decapitation strike.

That’s the only reason I can think why we wouldn’t have briefed our other allies, because I know they were all looped in up through the point we bombed nuclear sites the first time.

Did we launch any attacks from the UAE? Cause they were targeted anyway.

No. But we have bases there and our personnel at those bases are heavily involved in this.

We do not have personnel on France’s bases in Djibouti or the Arabian peninsula, for example.
