He’s up for reelection in 2028 so there’s time to build up a good primary target. They need to have a ground game in South Dakota to keep him honest with his constituents and have a good opponent ready to go if (when) Thune starts being a McConnell clone. At least it’s a solid red state. Maybe that’s why they put Noem in Homeland Security. Let her take and execute orders for Trump to build her reputation back up for a Senate run.

Also, I think there's a bit of a chance Thune surprises on the upside. Having met with the guy a few times my take is he's a follower, not a leader. So if the Trump Train has some mojo, he'll largely get onboard.

Guys, you are forgetting one thing. Thune wants to keep the senate majority. He has had to kiss Mitch's arse for so many years to get it. Now that he has that power, lets see how he uses. Mitch is gone, he might surprise us.

I think we should give him a chance. Evidently Trump and Thune have buried the hatchet and Thune has publicly supported the agenda the American people chose in this election.
While Scott is definitely the most MAGA, none of us know the inner relationships of the Senate members. Thune and Johnson have been in communication to push Trump agenda.
