I have family there, all MAGA and they voted D on that election. They like him much more than the other. They are still MAGA

Explain, why would that be BS? Many people vote across the aisle. I’ve voted for Ds before even though I typically vote R for President. Hell I used to vote D for president, voted for bill Clinton both times

Sure...I do not believe you when you say you have MAGA family in Texas that voted D on this special election for a state senator.
Probably not your fault...they may have said they did but in reality just stayed home like everyone else.

My nephew asked me what I thought of the candidates and I didn’t know anything about either of them. Maybe he/they lied though, I don’t care either way as it’s irrelevant to me

Again people vote for how their particular life is going.
Most middle class individuals are still under the assault of H1B, AI, and affordability.
Trump is pro H1-B, has done virtually the bare minimum to actual curtail this. He could end H1-B , OPT with the stroke of a pen and hasnt.
Trump is pro AI which currently is removing numerous jobs and the jobs that are not given to H1-B are moved offshore at no consequence to the tech oligarchy.
Most importantly, Trump has lost a large swath of everyone under 40 due to the pretentious, insane, and absolutely idiotic stance of having to save the boomer housing prices at the cost of literally every young person's chance.
So yeah im not fricking shocked this shite is occurring and will continue to occur nationwide including November.
Not to many folks lives have actually improved since last year.
Right. I think what people really want when they mean tough on immigration is black bag the owners of businesses employing these illegals not the illegals. The illegals are just responding to price signals of the labor market. They wouldn't be here if there were not opportunities incentivizing it. The owners are the ones creating these incentive structures by hiring illegally or - if they're big enough - change the laws so they can bring in cheap labor legally.
Housing is complicated because I don't have a good answer for it because the only real solution is "flood supply and crash the one appreciating asset most Americans own."
However broadly, I agree we live in an age that is like Saturn eating his own children. Everyone who isn't a boomer is paying into a social welfare system that politicians seem only interested in keeping minimally viable until the last boomer croaks. We got ourselves into this decade long malaise by shutting down sectors of the economy then having the government pump money into the economy to protect us from a virus that was really mostly a boomer risk factor. It is not a huge stretch to blame many of the problems this country faces on the over-sized and largely retired generation stretching various government and private sector functions past their breaking point. A lot of this mid-century social welfare system was built with the idea that they'd support generations the size of ones ravaged by economic crashes and world wars. Unfortunately those people took their post-war Valhalla that they deserved and fricked with no rubber too much so here we are.

She definitely should have changed her name to something people can speak. Who votes for someone that you can't even pronounce that person's name?

It is impossible for a county to flip that much in one election cycle without cheating. How can people forget so quickly how bad things were just a year ago and not realize how much better their lives are today
How did they cheat? I thought Texas had pretty robust voter id laws?

grampa voiced his support for her the day before

Well she divorced her firefighter first husband to marry a rich politician/lawyer within a year.... So she obviously...
Oh wait you meant how did the Democrats cheat...

This board is underestimating how energized the Democratic Party is right now.
Long way to midterms, but republicans need to wake up.

Agreed, they also need to stop picking bad candidates.
That sank the Tea Party.
It's continued to lose winnable seats.
Get serious candidates.

Low turnout
Yep. The numbers scream voter apathy.

Looks like State Senate District 9 had a voter apathy problem:
2004: 143,501 votes
2008: 231,943 votes
2012: 233,577 votes
2014: 137,296 votes
2018: 244,793 votes
2022: 277,883 votes
2025: Special election 118,912
2026: Special election runoff 94,880
LINK
Each candidate received fewer votes in the January runoff than in the November Special Election.
Taylor Rehmet received 54,280 votes in the runoff. In 2022 the Democratic candidate won 111,019 votes and lost the election. In 2018 the Democratic candidate won 112,537 and lost the election.

8 people that downvoted don't know the difference between a man and a woman
Posted on 2/1/26 at 9:33 pm to sgallo3
It was low turnout. I know Ill get downvoted to oblivion but we also lost 2020 because of low turnout. As someone who has worked elections for the past 2 decades, conservatives have a tendency to take a break from voting every 2 or 3 years depending on the cycle. Not everything is a conspiracy.
