No senior army leader wants the negative press for going hard in Berghdahl. the military works very hard to maintain its image to the public, even if that means compromising their duty to the country.

Listened to the Serial podcast on Bergdahl. Dude was definitely misguided but the podcast had interviews with Army folk that said no losses stemmed from the search. Do you have a source?
