"By expanding our language for God, we will expand our image of God and the nature of God," they stated. But Clergy delegate The Rev. Linda R. Calkins from St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Laytonsville, Maryland, challenged the delegates to go further. Calkins read from Genesis Chapter 17, in which God tells Abraham “I am El Shaddai.” She said that if Episcopalians "are going to be true to what El Shaddai means, it means God with breasts.”

I should have highlighted this passage in my original post bc it is part and parcel of how liberals skew shite to fit their narrative.
I looked up meaning and definitions of El Shaddai to try and understand what she s referring to with the breasts comment. In ancient Jewish culture it referred to the God of the Wildnerness and Mountains. Hopefully that's not what she means (who knows). The origins and different incarnations of the term El Shaddai are so vague and can be open to a myriad of interpretations. Nowhere does it refer absolutely to a woman or breasts.

These people are fricking nuts.

Wonder how they get around this verse?

quote:

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

This is the bedrock foundation of the Christian faith. For anyone to call themselves Christian, this verse lays at the heart of their faith. If they espouse anything other than Christ, then they’re not of Christ. There is no gray area or wiggle room on this point. Any Church preaching anything else or pushing any secular agenda has lost its way.

So the Episcopal Church is no longer going to refer to God as any gender in the revised Book of Common Prayer. And any gender (the fact that they officially recognize more than 2 is preposterous)

As a life long Episcopalian, I've put up with a lot of crap in the past 10-15 years; but this might be it for me.

What the frick is this shite? Are we just changing the entire Nicene Creed? This is bullshite. The gay priest whatever, but this is really crossing the line.

Theres no one "correct" way to follow God

I refer you back to the verse I’ve posted twice already and will now post a third time. This is Jesus Himself speaking here in John 14:6.....

quote:

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

It’s that simple. So yes, there is only one way. And Jesus spells out that way right there.

Exactly. So the Lord's Prayer will Be"Thy person who art in heaven"??
It's crazy. There is so much definitive scripture in the Bible that leaves no interpretation - the Holy Trinity is the Father, the Son, and The Holy Ghost. There's just no getting around that if you call yourself a Christian.
If you can't get on board with that, you need to start your own religion and leave mine alone.

Hey Bishop, do you even Genesis, bro?

"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Genesis 1:27

They've thrown out the Bible as the standard of life and faith a long time ago
this issue isn't really theological in regards to the nature of God. of course, there is a sense in which God is genderless in relation to how we understand gender. however, they are emphasizing this for ulterior, sociological reasons, i.e. to justify the acceptance of alternative lifestyles and that gender is fluid. that is obviously not scriptural.

Jesus referred to God as male. that ought to be good enough for us, this side of heaven.

It's one thing if they wanted to start their own church and celebrate stuff by lobbing off their man parts or taking tons of estrogen to grow tits and say that God likes this.

But I feel sorry for the parishioners that were there before that had to leave because their church got commandeered by a bunch of whackadoos.

Don't really agree with this move. God is too big of an a-hole to be a female.

Get out from that devilish sect. Episcopalians are the ones that brought gay marriage into God’s house, women deacons, and all sorts of spiritual AIDS. Note, the bush family are Episcopalian as well.

The church only exists because a king wanted a divorce. let's not pretend that the history of the episcopal church is steeped in some great reverence for holy doctrine.

I believe Episcopalian is the most common religion among all US Presidents, historically.

Jesus was God in the form of man on earth. Jesus was a man and God.
