It was.
After the damage had been done.

Seems like a request issue...that being said there’s still the minor problem of getting enough gas to flow from wells. Just got off the phone and the issue is all along the transport system. Midstreamers are hitting everyone with force majeure letters as processing plants are going offline...seeing it from etc, south cross and some smaller guys on my end. Gas trading today at $300/mmbtu @ Katy. I don’t have any info on other hubs. High demand plus crippled supply. Wow.

Preparations could’ve been made to prevent this.

By spending a lot of money to prep the plants for this very rare event or making a request earlier which wouldn't have really mattered because the whole energy system in texas from well head to the power plant to your house isn't set up for artic circle cold. The complaint about the red tape is fair, however, the red tape isn't the cause of this particular problem.

even as such a move is anticipated to result in a violation of limits of pollution.

They did something similar with the refinery’s during Katrina they needed gasoline and diesel that they basically gave them a pass on additional flaring to get the units up and running.

Point is, should you even have to ask. Katrina you had massive numbers of people without gasoline. Now you have practically all of Houston without power. You should just be able to do what you need to do.

there are some folks on this board that think it is a good idea for the government to be able to dictate what your thermostat is set on...

Or people may think its fine for the government to request/recommend you keep your thermostat at 70 since the grid/energy is a shared resource and if everyone says frick-it I'm setting it at 75, then the result is a blackout and we're all fricked. We have to work together on some things collectively (scary word!) and the easiest way to communicate the "in all our best interest" message is sometimes through gov.

I hear you.
But the grid administrators are not even calling the shots anymore.
And the state is having to answer to fedgov—something that never should happen, apart from military issues—all in the name of preventing air pollution.

While the rest of the country is going about their day normally, we’re hurting badly.
This is exactly what’s meant when Texans say we send billions to DC but are ignored in return.
This is going to lead to changes of some kind. It has to.

Take care, cwill.

Yep. I don’t get it. Are people saying Texas couldn’t make it on its own because it is having rolling blackouts for 3 days?
This is a combination of energy companies playing the blame game and their well paid politicians trying to blame it on regulations and wind energy.

So is this price gauging of some sort?

There's a strip if East TX, and portion of the panhandle not on the TX grid. Have they been out of power at all?

Trying? It’s the truth.

We’ve discussed the obscene federal regulations.

As for wind energy ... when there's so much oil bubbling out of the ground it can cause a mess, and you're afraid to light a match because your state is producing enough natural gas for the entire planet, it's nothing less than a sin to erect a bunch of unreliable, ugly, landscape-ruining, nature wrecking, non-storable power generating windmills that can't even be recycled when they're end of mission. 25% of our power should never come from "woke" stuff like that.

I’m not in the most accommodating of moods right now. Unfortunately, rather than having a legit discussion about the issues, people want to play politics.

Gov Abbott now calling for an investigation of ercot.

This could be a good review/prep opportunity for the TEXIT movement.

Chynese involvment?

quote:
The US arm of Chinese company Sungrow has secured a contract to supply a fully integrated energy storage system to the 100MW Chisholm Grid project in the state of Texas.

Chisholm Grid has been under construction since August and will be one of the largest battery energy storage facilities in Texas when work onsite at Fort Worth is completed this June.

The facility, utilising industry NMC battery technology, will generate revenue from the sale of energy and grid stabilisation services to the ERCOT wholesale electricity market.

No, it’s straight up supply and demand. The energy companies are bidding it up. Houston Ship is now trading at $400/mmbtu!!

ERCOT declared a statewide power generation shortfall emergency, asking us to reduce load through controlled outages which are expected to last for at least the rest of today.

That is not the reason for this clusterfrick no matter how badly you wish it were.

I just lost power at my house while I'm at the office, power still rocking. Might have to bring everyone here for a slumber party.

Those are two very big reasons for the current situation.
No matter; I’m not interested in arguing, nor are you, I’d wager.

Are you in health care? Emergency services?
Can’t imagine what you do that would enable you to get to your office. Be safe.
