they have the ability to, they just choose not to. The directives of their state’s emergency order still apply

If you read the circuit court’s order, it states the church has “promised to abide by” the church regulations issued by Mississippi, which are in themselves voluntary, until the issue is decided. The guidelines are lengthy.

The circuit court has already backed the Texas governor shutting down abortion clinics as non-essential, paralleling that with crimping other constitutional issues, including public worship.

Given the actual prevalence of the virus and its mortality in Mississippi, what wouldn’t qualify for a government emergency justifying a shutdown?

So the governor has the ability to declare anything an emergency and justify enormous police power based on nothing. Got it. That’s exactly as stupid a position as I was expecting from you.

that’s every governor and mayor and county/parish executive and President Trump. I’m not sure why this is news or controversial to everybody.

So there is no connection to actual events or data needed. The governor has carte blanche authority to shut down churches whenever he likes. Sounds pretty sound.

Holly Springs, MS

lived there for a year from July 2002 to July 2003 working on the power plant that was being built in Ashland...the dirtiest and smelliest Walmart I ever walked into was there...the chicken on a stick at the convenience stores were good...

The church is not the building. When the New Testament speaks of the church, it never refers to brick-and-mortar places where people gather, but to flesh-and-blood people who gather together

Jesus said "Where there are 2 or 3 gathered in my name, i will be in the midst of them"

Why do you keep saying this? A public health emergency is defined by legislatures and often contains language such as this:
quote:

A “public health emergency” is an occurrence or imminent threat of an illness or health condition that:

1. is believed to be caused by any of the following:

i. bioterrorism;
ii. the appearance of a novel or previously controlled or eradicated infectious agent or biological toxin;
iii. a natural disaster;
iv. a chemical attack or accidental release; or
v. a nuclear attack or accident; and

2. poses a high probability of any of the following harms:

i. a large number of deaths in the affected population;
ii. a large number of serious or long-term disabilities in the affected population; or
iii. widespread exposure to an infectious or toxic agent that poses a significant risk of substantial future harm to a large number of people in the affected population.

Cool story bro.

Christianity is sadly a victim of the same culture war propaganda that has also besieged the rest of western civilization.

Enjoy your brainwashing. Our religion was not always thusly cucked.

Doubtless you're also pro-Zion?

And restaurants, bars & every other gathering place are just as risky as church; but they're not burning Wal-Mart or Lowe's down are they? Why are churches getting so mocked for what everyone else can do?
Tolerance no?
They've had online services since this oppression started.
But you're completely fine with thousands at the beach-no masks, no distance nobody cares?
But a church has services & everybody sky screams.
Hypocrite much? Tolerance only goes one way for you people huh?

That statement also in the context of church discipline. He was saying that the Church has the authority to discipline brothers who refuse to repent. It wasn’t a statement that “church” is merely two or three people getting together to talk about the Faith at a coffee shop like I’ve heard some say.

but it could be. It’s more personal and intimate than getting preached at with 200 other people

unfortunately it hasn’t been safe to do so. I’m not sure why churches think they’re different from other venues that have had to close for the time being

I’ve avoided all large public gatherings.

But many Christians understand the need to gather as a community while in communion with their savior since the first centuries when it was even less safe. Many did not die on ventilators but on crosses. Many did not die of covid but by lion.

The fact that you don’t understand this should cry out to you to learn about Christianity and the Constitution.

The problem is that Christians are not taught the scriptures and their faith is so shallow that they can be persuaded easily by the culture. The solution is faithful teaching and preaching of the word of God.

You think biblical Christianity is “brainwashing”? Perhaps you need to reconsider your own beliefs.

I’m Reformed. Israel will be redeemed eventually but right now they are still apostate, rejecting the savior. I’m not in favor of returning to blasphemous sacrifices and temple building when Christ already died for the sins of the world.
