I don’t get how a day commemorating the freedom of enslaved people in Texas became a national holiday. We grew up hearing about it in our state, but the national attention the day now receives is puzzling to me.

Who knows … maybe fedgov will take its cue from the national expansion of Juneteenth and begin focusing on the enslavement of Texas by illegal immigrants?

So you hate people who want to celebrate the day the last slaves in the US were told they were no longer another man's chattel.

The hate you project toward so many of your equals here in America is truly pitiful.

Please continue to enjoy your self-imposed hell that you build for yourself.

No, but not one fricking black person alive was ever a slave in America.

Celebration of the ending of the Civil War at Appomattox would probably be more appropriate, since that and the Emancipation Proclamation are the things that actually freed the slaves in practice.

I think some holiday to celebrate the end of slavery in America is completely reasonable even if it originated as an obscure Texas thing and has a weird name.

I find "Juneteenth" much more worthwhile and worthy of government acknowledgment than the month long degeneracy fest we're also celebrating

By that logic should the people of Louisiana celebrate July 4th? Louisiana wasn't a state at the time the holiday is commemorating

I am all for letting black people have the day if they want to celebrate.

So the government gets to grant themselves another paid holiday on the dime of the taxpayers who have to work that day?

I'm trying to get a permit (waiting on the government to give me permission to do work on a customers private land) for a project and all government offices are shut down for Juneteenth.

Anyone who is productive doesn't even know what Juneteenth is. Just another day for the bloodsuckers to suck.

ETA: What a dumb name, (Juneteenth) for this Holiday.
It is exactly as you say another cushy day for govt.

I was put off doing bank, real estate transactions and my hairdresser is closed.

And I have never heard of this juneteeth. does it have to do with the nation closing down.

I will bet you Pelosi is getting a blow-out at the salon & Sheila Jax Lee her new crown of braids if she wants. Because they are speeeecial.

I understand why some people got annoyed about the context in which Juneteenth rose to national prominence (2020 BLM terrorism, etc.) but with the dust somewhat settled I don't really get why people have an issue with the underlying idea of it as a national holiday.

I have no issue if people want to celebrate the day. And I do not "hate" anyone. I actually love black people, I really do. This sounds cliche, but I have a lot of black friends through work, school, and in the basketball/softball leagues I play in and the inner city boxing gym I go to, and have spent many weekends volunteering in inner city neighborhoods with groups like Habitat building and renovating homes for black families.

My ire is most aimed at the government. I do "hate" the government, especially the federal government. And I believe any freedom loving person should hate the government, because the government is always inherently evil.

Proverbs 8:13 - “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil"

Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one.
Thomas Paine

Sure it is. Were you on here bitching about the bloodsuckers who weren't working on Memorial Day?

I don’t have an issue with celebrating the end of slavery generally. I think the name is fricking stupid, and celebrating the random day that some people told slaves in Galveston that slavery was over is even dumber.

But let’s be honest, they chose it for the dumb name and because it would be a more direct corollary to July 4. Both things were chosen to maximize the “in your face” aspect of the 2020/2021 racial bullshite.

The passage of the 13th amendment would make way more sense.

Apparently, only "they" can commemorate the end of human chattel slavery in the US.

But June 19th has no relationship with the end of human chattel slavery in the US?

You're silly, it's all about the US, that's the point. Nobody else in history had slaves, or still has slaves.
