You have to request the real stuff from behind the counter

So they make them change their formula. Sudafed says ok but we don’t have anything that works. Pay us. Gov says no just sell the junk decongestant for 20 years until you’ve made up the money that we will cause you to lose then we will pull it. . Everyone happy except the consumer
Sound about right?

Why'd they approve it in the first place if it was ineffective?

Is there a reason the OP couldn’t give us the info???

All 16 members of the Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee (NDAC) unanimously agreed that oral phenylephrine, found in common versions of Sudafed, Mucinex, Vicks, Allegra and Dayquil, isn't effective in offering relief from nasal congestion.

Lets check the money movement in stocks of this FDA panel.
I thought Sudafed worked OK for sinus stuff.
Now for chest congestion, I think Mucinex is a waste of money. My Dr. told me years ago, just drink lots of water and it will be just as effective as Mucinex chest.

Yep, I remember when the meth craze first hit, they started making you show ID to buy those medications and they limited you to like 1 per customer. I think now they have taken it off the market completely.
Anecdotal FB story:
Connection of my wife's said she had to show ID to buy pseudoephedrine Sudafed. They were out of the 20 count, so the pharmacist said she could just buy 2 x 10 count. Problem is, the system won't let you buy 2 boxes of Sudafed, irrespective of the count.
If they had the 20s, it would've been fine. If they had the 48 or 96 count, it would've been fine.
Just not 2 x 10, because that's two boxes.
Your government at work, ladies & germs.
Your government at work.

No the FDA did not unanimously vote, and that is not how the FDA works. You, sir, are a liar.
An advisory panel unanimously agreed (did not vote) and notified the FDA of their position.

Does it matter at this point? The FDA has practically zero credibility after the last 3.5 years of gaslighting.

Sudafed PE
This is the Sudafed you can buy just strolling down the aisle. The active ingredient is phenylephrine, hence the "PE" in the name.
Sudafed
This is the real version. It is held behind the pharmacy counter and you have to show your ID to purchase. The active ingredient is pseudoephedrine. It's where Sudafed gets its name from. You can extract the pseudoephedrine out of it and make methamphetamine from it that is why it is so restricted. But it works really well as a nasal decongestant. Sudafed PE doesn't do shite.
