What's the saying? Hindsight is 20/20.
It's easy to look back now and ask that question.
At the time, Fauci was considered an "expert".
We didn't know then, what we know now.

Plus, as it's been discussed here frequently, Trump was naive about DC and allowed himself to be surrounded by some "not so good people", as he would say.
Sure seems like he's learned his lesson.
Although we were assured by some folks around here that he hadn't and would only repeat his mistakes...... another false idea from the TDS crowd.

My theory is that Fauci, like Comey, was able to thrive within the system for years without being seriously questioned as someone who would put partisanship over authenticity. He served his masters, until he didn’t.

Trump’s legacy is essentially this…. He forced thousands of bureaucrats to reveal themselves and threw back the veil of corruption, patronage, and waste in government.

When Fauci first came on the scene at the beginning of covid, nobody knew he was the POS that he is. He operated in a world that nobody paid any attention to.

I was done with Fauci within the first two months of Covid. Very early on he made a speech and told everyone not to worry about masking up. Masks were of no help with a virus. Save the masks for hospital personnel.

Inside of two months he was pushing mask mandates for everyone. That is when I knew Fauci was a lying POS. Whether he lied to first time about masks or the 2nd time it didn't matter. He was a proven liar at that point and couldn't be trusted. That is when Trump should have fired him. When you tell the nation a bald faced lie for any reason you should be dumped.

I was done with Covid when I heard...

Former President Trump announced his “15 days to slow the spread” campaign one year ago, which urged Americans to stay home to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

I realized then it was nothing but a power play

Very few people knew what Fauci did in the 1980's only a few remember.

Remember no one remembered what a character Biden was in the 1980s also.

I think there was some politics at play. He dumps Fauci and the left goes nuclear and he would have been impeached by the Ds and Rs. But also consider, Trump knew what was goin on. He was calling it the chynuh virus from the beginning, long before anyone rlse and got beat up for it. It was an election year, he saw it for what it all was. By keeping Fauci front and center, all decisions were on Fauci. Fast forward and Fauci is on the hook for it all, Trump is all but absolved from any blame.

Trump was a moron in his first term. Still a moron to a degree but he’s learned a lot and is surrounding himself with good people.

Fauci's power seems to have been cemented with the focus (and large congressional appropriations) on biodefense after the anthrax incident in 2001.

Link below is to an interview with molecular biologist Richard Ebright, who had been warning of the dangers of gain of function research for a long time. It's a long interview but enlightening - first mentions Fauci about 3 minutes in.

I have said for a while this is one of my biggest problems with Trump. Him giving Fauci that much authority, the bump stock ban, saying he’s a fan of taking the guns first and asking questions later, and operation warp speed.
