How many home defense uses are there for 25 yards or more?
Also, that difference isn't as significant as you imply when all factors are considered. If someone comes into my home, I'll take my AR over my 870 every time.

Yeah, it is. I've fallen victim to that mythology more than once myself.
"They'll know where you are if you have a weapon light" is top three.

Yeah, but you probably couldn't kill 17 in 5 or 6 minutes with a couple of 12 gauges full of buck shot
In a school? With everyone sheltering in place? The death toll would potentially be enormous in 5-6 minutes. They could not effectively hide behind locked doors, as shotguns are specifically used to get into locked rooms.

I thought we were initially talking about slinging lead in a school with hallways etc....
Oh well.
I’m pretty handy with an AR type carbine. I did survive Nuristan and Kunar (even though a few times it was purely due to my ability to call for mortars effectively and probably a bigger factor, our mortar men able to hang rounds on target).
I just prefer a shotgun.

I'm in this category now and have been for some time. I can see taking a pistol into certain situations, but with an unknown threat, the rifle gives me more confidence. It is a more robust response, sufficient to handle a wider range (and number) of threats.

I can't laugh at these as much, as someone clearly used a little bit of (however flawed) critical/creative thinking with those.
It's the "lethal" barrel shrounds, folding stocks, flash hiders, pistol grips, bayonet lugs and grenade launchers that get me every single time. Nothing tops that.

That isn't a legitimate use for either weapon. I prefer to keep the discussion focused on what the weapons are intended to be used for.

Nothing better than my SBR for home defense.

Exactly what is needed for citizens to defend themselves against tyrannical government with military grade weapons.

Yeah, there is a lot of thought behind it, but not a lot of experience. I find that to be dangerous.

Roger.
Actively hunting kids is not a legitimate use for one.
I do use my shotgun to hunt deer down here in LA, Too much brush for a rifle round. Occasionally I’ll use the .45-70
That’s the perfect brush gun

Choke affects buck shot too. 2 3/4 spread difference is significantly different at 25 yards VS modified or full.
I posted the stats big man. Just admit you were talking shite and be done with it.

So did I.
You need to go back and read them again.

Sorry. That it doesn’t agree with you’re position.
What the frick are you talking about? It "agrees" 100% with my position and obliterates the bullshite you posted about your shotgun skills. Eg "multiple baddies, barely aiming". That shite is just stupid and not borne out by that most basic tests.
Then you posted some shite about bird shot... I honestly have no clue what you are going on about at this point.
Posted on 2/26/18 at 10:24 am to Kriegschwein
Absolutely. I'm not trying to negate the usefulness of a shotgun. I certainly don't own several because they're not useful.
Still, in any situation where I need to grab a weapon, it's going to be an AR.

I've moved almost completely to G34 with extended mags. Gives me more freedom with my hands / flashlights, which are a big part of my strategy. I can throw on a belt with ammo, phone, flashlight quickly no matter how naked I am, and I can carry 90+rnds no problem. I keep a couple ARs around in case I have to deal with stuff outside.
