Media companies may have laid off more than 2,100 journalists last week as they scale back in search of profits, but The Washington Post is splashing out on a $5.2 million Super Bowl ad starring Tom Hanks to teach Americans how important journalism is in the age of President Donald Trump

I think Tom Hanks is a good man and I'm disappointed he is associating his good name with that trash.

I used to like Hanks but like most of the rest of Hollywood, he can’t stand to stay silent and has to tell us how to think.

I salute these brave journalists who brave great dangers to bring us articles like “17 ways your pet is telling you to vote Democrat.”(YOU WONT BELIEVE NUMBER 9)

Ugh. That’s gonna sell more papers.
This is some truly groan worthy shite. This might spark some interesting conversations at Super Bowl parties.

Journalism , when the F’ck we had Journalism, 30 years ago???

It's not journalism if you make the stories up. That's called fiction.

After the horrendous start the media has had in 2019 (BuzzFeed/Cohen, Covington kids vs deranged Indian, Grindr Date Gone Wrong in Chicago, and the most prominent Dem Gov wearing black face and KKK hood) you would think they might tone down their faux hysteria.
I guess they are dumber than they look.

If think Tom Hanks is a "good man" you are naive as hell.
Posted on 2/3/19 at 2:44 pm to Turbeauxdog
Why do you think Tom Hanks is a good man? Is it because he plays likable characters in movies?

5.2 could help out so many assylum seekers. Glad to see WaPo spending on tv.

Would like to see an ad run right after it that stresses the importance of journalistic integrity, and shows all the times they have been partisan and flat out wrong or deceptive.

Hanks has a tendency to deep dive into his movie roles and not let go when the film is over. He's not so much a political idealogue as he is an obsessive actor.
After he did Saving Private Ryan he was obsessed with WWII and promoting veterans groups. After he did Appollo 13 he was obsessed with the space program and helping promote NASA. After he did Sully and Captain Phillips he was obsessed with pilots and ship captains and championing all their great deeds.
This latest stunt is just another chapter in a long book for him. He recently played Ben Bradlee in a movie about the Washington Post so this is just the latest obsession. He will soon move on to whatever his next role is.

Hanks started his career on the show Bosom Buddies by making fun and ridiculing the plight of the trans community. There were pedophile undertones in the movie Big.
When you watch the commercial, pretend that he is lecturing the mainstream media and the way they’ve abandoned journalism.

I don’t go to movies anymore because of their views on my beliefs.... screw Hollywood

After government workers, university professors and union teachers that indoctrinate our kids into socialism and the cult of global warming, journalists are next on the list of those to be shot in the streets when the 2 nd American revolution begins.
