Ex-top FBI lawyer James Baker admits he is 'nervous' about DOJ inspector general
by Jerry Dunleavy
May 10, 2019
Former FBI General Counsel James Baker admitted on Friday that he is “nervous” about DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s investigation into the conduct of the DOJ and the FBI during the Trump-Russia probe.
Sitting down with with Lawfare’s Benjamin Wittes in a crowded room at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., Baker said he is “assuming that they will dig and find stuff” and that “we’ll try to sort it out and see what mistakes were made.” But Baker defended the FBI's actions, including its use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
Horowitz’s investigation is particularly focused on alleged FISA abuse and the reliance on British ex-spy Christopher Steele in FISA applications targeting Trump campaign associate Carter Page. Steele’s dossier was funded in part by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign through the Perkins Coie law firm and the opposition research group Fusion GPS. The investigation is expected to finish in May or June.
...
Baker contended that he was “confident in the judgments that I made at the time based on the information that I had available to me.” But he left open the possibility that others may have engaged in wrongdoing, saying, “I’m sure they will find things that I didn’t know at the time and maybe that others didn’t know at the time.”
“There were facts that existed in the Bureau that were known by certain people that weren’t known by others including me, that’s certainly possible and that happens frequently,” Baker said. “And so, I’m assuming that they will dig and find stuff like that. So, we’ll try to sort it out and see what mistakes were made.”

and then there is this jewel . . . .

And the New York Times reported that the FBI reached out to some of Steele’s foreign sources and as early as January 2017 agents had reportedly concluded that some of the dossier’s contents may have been based upon “rumors and hearsay” which were “passed from source to source.” The agents believed that some of Steele’s information may have even been based upon “Russian disinformation.”

I thought there was another post about him on here where he said everything they did was on the up and up.

Classic case of signaling “Let’s Make a Deal!”, you’re the next contestant on “Keeping My Arse Out of Jail!”

They've probably already been informed about what's in the IG Report. If they're going to be in legal trouble, I think they have to be informed.
One way or another, Baker KNOWS the jig is up. It's all about getting out in front of the report and spinning now. That's why Comey was on CNN last night. Not hard to see that Comey is worried.
If this IG report plays out the way I think it will, I might even name my next dog Horowitz. My luck, I'll shorten it and some woman will end up calling 911 on my arse.

Can’t wait to see this scumbag in cuffs. He’ll have plenty of time to think about what “mistakes’ he made.

Lawfare, the sitting bench for traitors trying to overthrow the govt. They get govt jobs, get booted and go work for lawfare, then pop up again in govt. These POS organisations need to be taken to task with the rest of the cabal.

1) he will it come out and say he did something wrong
2) best defense is to say you were following orders or that the select info you u were given painted a specific view
What this interview tells me is he know he was part of something illegal and is trying to get ahead of it

Im thinking Comey has convinced himself that he has an out with a defense of good faith. Perhaps he's prepared to throw other FBI agents under the bus with "I merely relied in good faith upon what my agents presented to me" yadda yadda. It's a disgustingly decent plan.

Delusional people can claim it was in the up and up with mistakes made. What they won’t admit, however, is those were intentional mistakes.

Earlier today I read another post that had the quote as "comfortable" instead of "confident" which I thought was a strange use of words because I would have used "confident".
So the questions is did the earlier post contain the wrong wording or has MSM changed the word to promote a more "confident" front.
No Link.

He must be a reasonably good politician, he was FBI Director. But he’s so in love with himself, it’s hard to see him thinking that cogently.

I forced myself to watch that dog and pony charade last night, and you're right. Comey basically threw Strzok, Page, and McCabe under the bus. Comey has also publicly disagreed with former AG Loretta Lynch.
We'll see how that works out for him.

Perhaps it explains why he reopened the Clinton investigation.

And threw in there last night the ole "not to my knowledge" catch all as well. That would potentially go to a good faith defense citing the warrant application including the line "to the best of my knowledge, information and belief." Im assuming a FISA warrant application/affidavit would include such...perhaps for just such an out. Yeah he believes he's the smartest person in the room...we will indeed see how that works out for him.
