I saw this first hand at a fueling station.100% gasoline, after being pumped into tanks from a barge, is then loaded into the tanker trucks along with the ethanol. I asked one of the employees rhetorically mind you, why in the frick am I paying at least 50 cents more per gallon for non-ethanol gasoline to run in my boat and power equipment. He just shrugged his shoulders and said you know why. It’s crazy.

Welfare. Subsidies. Kick backs. Big business acting like big business. Or politicians acting like politicians it's all the same.
Winners and losers don't ever change.

I tend to be more concerned about the plight of folks that are allowing me to put food on my table without growing it myself.

Better than welfare for solar panels, windmills and electric cars. Not to mention illegals and terrorists.

There is the simple minded whataboutism we have been waiting for.

Ethanol only made sense when we were producing far less oil in the USA and needs all subsidies cut, in fact I think they expired last year and have not been renewed but welcome a correction on that point.

I am 95% convinced it exists because Iowa is the first stop in the Presidential nomination races.
This.

Some red state needs to hold their caucus before Iowa and take the wind out of their sails.

frick those Iowa corn farmers and their ethanol.

Agreed. Ethenol is a scam on the taxpayers that is environmentally dangerous, mechanically destructive, and economically inefficient. The Renewable Fuel Standard needs to be done away with along with all ag subsidies.

No shite. Please read my earlier post. The question is why?? Ethanol is an additive. Why is it cheaper to purchase fuel plus an additve vs pure fuel.

One Iowa poster on here gets very defensive whenever ethanol subsidies are mentioned....

Well there’s no telling how much of Iowa's economy is tied to corn farming. Everybody shits on the farmer when this stuff happens, but most of the “welfare” is going in one hand and out the other. It’s just the farmer’s hand.

It would be ignorant to say that all of that money is just passing through, but a lot of it is. Every seed, chemical, unit of fertilizer, tractor, planter, combine, acre of land, etc. just became more valuable.

It’s all one big cycle, and you have to roll your eyes at both the farmer who cries saying he can’t make any money and the guy who says the farmer is becoming a millionaire off the government. They’re both a little obtuse.
