Enacting Supreme Court term limits

A bad idea that came from a bad intent
I was surprised to see Kennedy's name and a quote from him in support of a debate.
But make no mistake that this is driven by Dems. They didn't get their way in 2016, so they want to change the rules.
"Instead of term limits, some on the left say Democrats should add four justices to the nine-member court if they win the White House and control of Congress in 2020."
I wonder how many people really said that outside of the "journalist"'s internal monologue.

When will they learn, play stupid game win stupid prizes. They do this time and time again, they do not like the results so they try and change the rules of the game. In this case what makes our government the greatest the world had ever seen.
Then lets say hypothetically they were able to do change it, the republicans would use it to their advantage and the Dems just like with redistricting and Merick Garland would be up shits creek without a paddle.

Term limits is a terrible idea, but a fitness and mental wellness standardized test should be taken by everyone before the court meets each session.
I'm talking really basic stuff, not run a mile in 9 minutes.

No thank you, yeah RBG is no longer fit, but do not fall into the democrat trap of thinking.

Term limits for Congress before anything. These guys and gals are the real problem.

These Dems have no imagination

A big reason this has happened is because the nutjob Dems overreach, and when sane people see that happen they move to the right and vote that way.
But the intent of changing the rules is to make that impossible. Gerrymandering means we'll get Dem nutjobs no matter what. Getting rid of the Senate, as Dingell has proposed, would amplify that effect dramatically. USSC term limits means, in the short term, we get nutjob rulings no matter what.
Removal of choice is the goal.

I know, but it's hard not to when you look at that old buzzard just sitting there. She looks completely unaware of her surroundings. At some point, we have to be able to say, step aside. I know that if we put that mechanism in place, they Dems would abuse it. frick it, let her rot for the good of the Republic I suppose.

It's exactly what Liberals want...an opening to start dicking around with the Constitution, and flood a Constitutional Convention with leftist inspired amendments in hopes that something will pass.

I think one 18 year term at two year intervals is reasonable. It would put pressure on Congress to approve the replacement nominee since it's understood there will be a nominee every two years. It would also keep a two term President from stacking the Court with a majority.

Trump should tweet, "Considering raising the USSC to 41 additional members. We should have one from every state."

Age limit is better for judges, turn 80 your must retire as a judge

Not really. In the same way that a President surrounds himself with people that are smart and capable and like-minded in governing, so that as a group they represent the President, the same is true for a Judge. So im sure that RGB isnt writing her opinions anymore but whoever is is writing the opinion that RGB would write.

Removal of Democrats becomes the response.
They have the choice of the easy way (voting) and the hard way, should they not want to go easy into the night,

I think this is a good idea. I am sorry, people over 80 are at least even odds of being mentally impaired. frick, I think they should do that for congress. Give some people who aren't decrepit a chance.

Funny how nobody was talking about term limits for the Supreme Court when Obama was nominating Kagan and Sotomayor. Or when everyone thought Hillary was a lock to win in 2016 and would have had a Supreme Court nominee on day 1, with almost everyone expecting at least one more nominee in her first term considering the ages of some of the justices.

That pesky Constitution
Posted on 12/6/18 at 6:29 pm to TheHarahanian
I would limit SCOTUS terms to 20 years.
