The direct election of Senators should be repealed. If the legislatures of the states were put back in charge of appointing Senators at will you would have a couple of immediate results.

Campaign cash and corruption in the Swamp will be cut in half if not more.

The will of the people of each State will be greatly enhanced and felt on the issues. For example, if Bill Cassidy went of course and voted or threatened to vote to eliminate the harvest of crawfish, the Louisiana legislature could recall him and replace him on demand. That is how the original Constitution was designed.

Repeal the 14th Amendment. It was never ratified legally anyways.

The current choices on the ballot notwithstanding, I wouldn't empower the Alabama state legislature to appoint a dog catcher.

Why this hasn't happened yet, I don't know.

Plus, the days of the federal government overtaxing us, then dictating onerous rules to states in order to receive federal funding will be over. Think about it: Could the monstrosity called Obamacare been passed? No way. The states want freedom and lattitude to do best by its citizens.

The most corrupt and incompetent political institutions in the US today are state legislatures. If we went back to letting those hacks appoint Senators, we'd go back to what our Senate was in the late 19th century. IN those days Senate seats were purchased by lobbyists and the industrial interests. Those Senators did not reflect what the states wanted. They reflected what the industrialists and mega-rich wanted. Corruption in that day far exceeded anything today.

It amazes me that some folks know so little of our history that some would propose going back to an absolutely corrupt system.

Do you really trust state legislatures to do the right thing? I’d much rather see term limits

Term limits would make the swamp worse.

Seeing the corruption in the state capitals of NY, Illinois, Louisiana and Alabama over the past few years, I don't trust them to elect Senators openly and without back room deals. It will be worse than it is now. Plus it is impossible to say that the states don't have a voice, they do, just the people not the legislators of the states decide.
