Are American made products bad because you don't have any?

American made guitars are the best.

Martin, Gibson, Taylor.

I woke up this morning thinking about this thread, and took a quick inventory,of what I have that is made In The U.S.,and what is foreign made.
Almost everything I own is old,and U.S. made, with the exception of some electronics, which are all cheap junk,a couple of Jap guitars,1 Canadian made a couple of Mexican made ones and 1 Chinese made Fender, which is pretty good for the price. The rest are all U.S. made, and high quality instruments.
Guns, almost the same thing.mostly U.S. made, with a couple made in Belgium, and a couple made in The Czech Republic.
All furniture,U.S. made and mostly antique stuff. Appliances, all old and U.S. made,(washing machine and dryer are over 35 years old, done a couple of repairs over the years to both, but they both work great.)
Vehicles, all U.S. Made, except 1 Jap made Isuzu Trooper fantastic vehicle, but it came with a Chevrolet engine in it,26 years old and still runs great.
My underwear and socks were probably made in Mexico, though every other item of clothing I own are U.S. made, including my boots. The quality U.S made stuff costs a little more, but it lasts forever.
All my tools,U.S. made and high quality, because they last.
If you think U.S. made products are trash,I suspect that you live a pretty much throw away life, and are a wasteful person, who doesn't repair anything. You just throw it away and buy more cheap crap.
It's fine if you want to do that,it's your money. I find it interesting though, that most of the people who have this mindset, and live throw away lifestyles, are the same ones who scream and cry about environmental issues and such.

Our cars used to be the best.

They still are, but they have become:
1- Non-union.
2- Japanese.
3- Southern.

Problem was UAW and big three negotiated each other to an unsustainable position. Prices went up and quality went down. Finally, they created an economic environment where it became possible for Japan to import all the natural resources to manufacture cars, build the cars, build and buy auto carrier ships, ship cars across the vast Pacific Ocean, ship cars by rail to all ends of America by train, beat the big three’s quality, and meet their price from Maine to Florida.

That was the 70s and 80s. American and state governments also added to the witches brew with laws that make America less competitive. Taxes, pollution, safety, environmental, wages, unions, and many other miscellaneous regulations. Chrysler effectively died. Mercedes tried to partner with them, and now Fiat owns them. GM missed a golden opportunity to shed its legacy cost, but Obama poured American taxes in to save the union.

But now big three quality meets American made Japanese. If we demand fair trade and reduce government interference American manufacturing can recover.

You post made me think. When I first became a homeowner 15 years ago I did a lot of buying from Sears because thats what my parents did. About 5 years in I started going to Best Buy and circuit city. Every electronic and appliance in my home is a Samsung. If thats a throw away lifestyle so be it

It wasn't always like that. I bought a house in 1977 that had a dehumidifier in the basement. It lasted over twenty years. Now dehumidifiers made in China last less then five years.
I saw a documentary the other day about an old home here in East Tennessee. There was a Norge refrigerator over fifty years old that was still working properly, according to the spokesperson.
Norge was the brand name of the first refrigerator my folks purchased in the 50s when electricity was first made available in North Louisiana.

As I said, all of my electronics are foreign made,it is throw away stuff, all of it.It carries no value. If I had an estate sale this morning, every electronic item in my house probably wouldn't fetch $1,000.
Antiques, guns, guitars, tools, knives, that is a different story, and after I'm dead, those will be things that my wife and kids can keep, or sell for significant money,if they are smart about it.

So basically you don't buy American intentionally either. Furniture and home decor is my wifes thing. I realky don't have a say in the matter im just there to agree with her and pay.
We have 3 vehicles 1 of which was built in America but they are 2 Dodges and a GMC Yukon XL that I bought new in 2001 but have probably put about $15-20k back into it.
I dont get caught up in this buy american nonsense.
In 2009 I worked at our Honda dealership. Most Hondas are built in America. Asian and most true Honda customers will not buy 1 if the first letter or number in the vin isn't J. The J means it was built in Japan. The used ones with the J cost more than the ones made in America.

When I buy electronics, I consider it junk as soon as I purchase it. I don't expect it to last, and it doesn't
When I buy items that I expect to last,I buy American.
Tax the frick out of anything not built in The U.S..
If that means electronics will be built here again, great. That stuff is all junk anyway. It doesn't matter where it comes from.
I have only ever owned 1 Honda,It was a civic, It was built in Japan. It was a piece of junk that stayed broken down, and was a pain in the arse to work on.Never again.
I have had a couple Toyotas in the past, they were pretty good, except for head gasket problems on both.
At least they weren't front wheel drive, and were easier to work on.
My Isuzu Trooper is still great, but it has a Chevrolet engine, that's why I bought it years ago.

Are people seriously going to pretend that cheap Chinese knockoffs are higher quality than the more expensive but better American made stuff, because drumpf? You know, if trump says the sky is blue that doesn’t mean you should argue it is green.

This might be the first person in my life I’ve ever seen say American products are trash and that the best quality stuff comes from China.
