I won’t dispute that but compare it to its peers. What do the generators for fossils even nuke require and is it similar. I’ll give you a hint. I know the answer because it’s a function of magnetic radiation energy transfer.

And let's not pretend that there isn't a massive amount of raw material used in oil exploration
The Enbridge pipelines in the GOM span over 1200 miles and that's just to transport natural gas
That doesn't include the massive facilities that they tie into and the hundreds of tons of cabling that exist on some of those facilities
I spent over a year offshore on Chevron Jack St. Malo and that is by no means an operation that doesn't consume a lot of mined resources

You're getting all Teslaesque up in here.

They probably had to get some sleep. I'm having an insomniac moment myself tonight whilenwatching Asian markets and waiting on the European markets to open.
Or you may have scared some off with that last post of yours up there.
Tesla had it all figured out 100 years ago. No telling what his mind might accomplish in today's world .... or if another like him, or Einstein for that matter, will ever come along.
Electromagnetic Power Transfer is the way of the future though, once they figure out how not to fry people and electronics in the process. I read a book about the Tower of Power forty years ago and it seemed like science fiction at the time ... not any longer.
One day they'll finally put a version of the Tesla Coil to good use.

I'm not reading the entire thread so apologies if these points have already been mentioned.
Okay, let's wipe all fossil fuels off the face of the earth tomorrow. We're going to need electric cars, millions of them. How many manufacturing plants in the United States get their power from any source other than coal or nuclear? Not near enough, (My personal guess would be zero.) but let's say there are enough. What are all of these electric cars going to be made out of? Plastic? not if petroleum is eliminated from the process. Metal? To get metal you need mining equipment operating underground, after all that is where the ores that metals are made from are. Solar and wind don't work very well underground so are we going to go back to the 19th century and dig all these ores up by hand? How are these cars going to be distributed to dealerships? Has anyone developed solar and wind powered semis? And that is just the problem with one sliver of the overall manufacturing segment of the American economy. Every manufacturing plant that makes anything else is going to have the same problems with power. Also making all of these electric cars is going to make the workers hungry when they clock out for the day. Have you ever seen a tractor or combine that runs on anything other than fossil fuels? Without those how do you provide food for a country with a population approaching 330 million? It is simply technologically impossible to maintain this country's current standard of living without fossil fuels today and it is going to take at least the better part of a century before that changes. By the way I never even touched the question of how does every home and apartment in the country get its electricity without fossil fuels.

No one is suggesting that. Great job at starting your argument on a false premise.

BP is one of the largest owners of wind power in Texas. And shell is part of a joint solar project in Texas as well.
Those big energy companies aren't just going to disappear with the green energy ramp up. They're going to be a crucial part of it from both a research and investment standpoint.

Anyone who thinks the answer is all of one or the other is just completely wrong. We neeed diversity of generation type and location to support a stabile and flexible energy infrastructure.
only correct answer.
Us navy is testing hydrogen power via sea water.

Before or after Obama weaponized the EPA and DOE against them? Just trying to get my mind around the timing of all of this.

If we adopt the "green new deal", after a couple of decades, the few survivors would have enough fossil fuel to last a thousand years.
We can't feed nor provide shelter for the vast majority without fossil fuel.
I wish some of you greenies would show us how to live without fossil fuels.

At this point, if you really want a complete "reset" of the country, we should just let Warren ban fracking and let the economic chaos ensue.

Crazy how the left were ok with killing of endangered animals, and ruining the landscape.
I was listening to a report about the difficulty of disposing/recycling wind turbines that had reached the end of their service life (apparently only 20 years). The blades are a huge issue since they are fiberglass and there is no commercially viable method of reusing the material yet. So they go to a landfill for now...

Coal has been on a huge decline over the last decade and it will continue to decline as it is slowly displaced by natural gas
So why did 5 of the world's largest coal firms just announce plans to boost production? India, China, Russia ramping up usage of a cheap, energy-dense resource that also produces useful byproducts and is extremely clean burning with current scrubber technology. Morons against coal in the US.

It's all about BTUs. Until the "green energy" can produce the same BTUs as fossils and nuclear, it's a libtard wet dream and only hot air out of their mouths.
Coal is currently producing 30% of US electric power. So, remember that the electric car that you just passed has coal emissions miles away that the libtards like to ignore. And don't forget about the natural gas emissions from those other electric plants. Wind, water, solar...small percentage.

That 30% number is from 2016. It's more like 26% now and forecast to be below 25% next year. Non-hydro renewables are sitting a little above 10% and forecast to be 13% by the end of next year. Nuke, hydro and bio are pretty flat. NG growing at about the same pace as NH renewables.

Electric cars are mostly just fossil fuels by proxy since coal is generating the electricity to charge them. Not to mention the diesel fuel burned to mine and ship the raw materials for battery manufacture.
There is not only a huge carbon cost to it, but also other environmental and human factors besides for CO2. It takes quite a lot of water to process the materials for batteries and to recycle them. We would also need to rape Africa again for its rare earth minerals.
If electric cars were mainstream, our power grid would probably collapse from the pull on it the very first cold morning.
Although battery tech is getting better, it is still a far cry from the service life of a well put together vehicle. Are we going to have to upgrade our iCar every 5 years?
If we had started with electric, the combustion engine would seem like magic. I’m a bit skeptical.

So what? Do you charge your laptop using a generator? No. You use grid power made by a much more efficient power plant.

I don't think the average electric car driver thinks about this at all. I believe they've convinced themselves that, despite the effort put into making the car, the batteries, etc., that the fact they plug it in the wall means it is a zero emission device.
These kooky environmental beliefs need to be challenged and reversed for the good of us all.
