I don't think you can stop it all together, but other countries that have decriminalized have seen improvements. I'll admit that the study is ongoing, but so far, it seems to be the correct method to combating drug use.

But again, Big Pharma (and it's politicians) is surely against anything like that.

They found another criminal activity to produce revenue.

They didn't stop being criminals.

Pot dealers will take a hit for sure I just don't agree that they disappear. Someone will have to fill the gap for the underage pothead. It won't be filled by fake IDs and friends completely.

I bet pot shops are hypercritical of IDs for anyone under 30.

so, you still want complete regulation to control? I don't think it works. The government does not hold our best interest...they just let huge corporations do that for us.

What? So, legalizing the business will not decrease the black market???

Black market was there. Is there. Will always be there. New drugs and cheaper.

Its a fact that ypu will never get around.

When prohibition ended, the mob turned to new things. Like.... drugs!

I believe it should be decriminalized, but legalization attracts undesirables.

Goodness, you people see nothing but stereotypes. That's what living in a bubble does to you.

Guess that's one of the big problems in general with politics. 3% of people fit the stereotype, but that's all you know.

Then why are they still making busts and seizing billions?

Btw... you see what they want you to see. Had hillary been elected, we would no nothing about the Fbi agents working on her behalf.

Prohibition promoted the rapid growth of organized crime. It created a demand for illegal alcohol that criminals could sell at high prices. The price of spirits rose 24%. That of beer jumped 700% during Prohibition.5 Organized crime made enormous profits. This gave gangsters great political power. Al Capone made $60,000,000 in untaxed income annually. The average industrial worker made less than $1,000 per year.6

quote:

Prohibition led to a rise in crime, including violent forms such as murder. During the first year of Prohibition the number of crimes committed in 30 major cities in the U.S. increased 24%. Arrests for drunkenness and disorderly conduct increased 21%. Arrests for drunken driving jumped by 81%.

quote:

During the first ten years, the murder rate climbed 78% across the country.8 In Chicago, almost 800 gangsters died.9 Nationally, the homicide rate per 100,000 people rose almost two-thirds during Prohibition. Repeal led to a sharp drop throughout the 1930s and into the early 194010 Prohibition created more crime. It destroyed legal jobs and created a black market in which criminals violently fought over markets. It also diverting money from the enforcement of other laws.

quote:

The big winners from Prohibition were, of course, the nation's gangsters. The law had only been in operation for an hour when the police recorded the first attempt to break it, with six armed men stealing some $100,000-worth of "medicinal" whisky from a train in Chicago. From the very beginning, criminals had recognised that Prohibition represented a marvellous business opportunity;

It was there when I was a kid. You can joke all day, but its the facts.

The gansters turned to other things and went legit with The other.

Why do you think we had hardly any drug use then and after it was legalized drugs showed up?

You think legalizing it will change the history of the actions of criminals?

Drugs were illegal when you were a kid

Overregulation creates bloody, violent, lucrative black markets.

Prohibition increases violent crime.

I think that guy is a troll.

This thread is a clown show. I (foolishly) thought the board was better than this.

Like a new source of tax revenue, a new source of thousands of jobs, decreased drug overdoses, additional options for pain relief, etc?

Yeah. Those things are so bad.
