Personally & professionally he supported Obama, Hillary, Landrieu et al. Enough said. As was said all during the election, to deaf ears, study his Legislative committee votes & he voted the hard core DNC policies right down the line.
I believe that offsets West Point, and being a nice guy by about 1000 miles.

I really like him.
For his army service for one.

By many accounts from people who worked with him on a regular basis, Hitler was exceedingly charming.
I'm just saying...

In your opinion as a civilian no doubt.
Oh and link me up to all the great thins Bill Cassidy has done for LA? After getting embarrassed by a Florida senator on the senate floor he has chosen to champion...wait for it the impact on LA is going to be enormous...
Autism, he is going to spend 6 years in DC promoting autism. Boy that should really put LA over the tough economic hump we are in.
LA has the two weakest, get nothing done Senators in the US, both Republican.

If Louisiana didn't want him as Governor then why did they elect him?
Because he cloaked himself with pro-gun/pro-life garments and masqueraded as a "conservative" democrat.

Nothing wrong with working on autism.
But you are leaving out his work on the Mental Healthcare Act of 2015 and 2016. And he was the point person on shepherding flood relief through the senate.
And he is pushing for greater offshore revenue sharing
And has already influenced the debate over Obamacare and will continue to do so.
And helped pass the WRDA bill (water infrastructure) which is vitally important to LA.

He is not off putting.
He is a fourth generation politician (maybe more) and sees the world from that point of view. He considers himself ethical and moral but sees no problems with nepotism, side deals, shady deals and other dubious spoils of political power. He can't help it, he was raised to think like that. If you brought it up to him he would wonder why you expect anything different. The people around him thinks the same and many are hopeful profiteers from his power.
He admires Huey Long and Edward Edwards. That really tells you all you need to know. LINK
The vindictiveness BigJim speaks of comes from that same line of thinking. Huey was vindictive. To JBE that is just part of the job.
Look he is thinks business beyond the mom and pops are too profitable and it is the jobs of lawyers to punish them. If there is profit in that for the lawyers he would love to share it.
He is loyal to his "people" and the hell with the rest of us. We have not seen any fig leaves to conservatives from him and we will not. He thinks being pro life and pro gun is enough.

Lakeboy7 thinks none of that is important because Cassidy has an R next to his name.
Party before country for that bigot.

If his constituents elect him he has to work for them.
Then why is he raising their taxes to high fricking heaven with nothing to show for it besides jobs being killed and chasing their jobs out of this state with his almost completely baseless attacks on the largest source of private employment in this state?
quote:
why did they elect him?
They didn't elect him, they just voted against the other guy and he has Dardenne and Angelle to thank for completely tarring his opponent in a way he couldn't as a democrat.
He will not be so lucky in 2019 as GOP insiders will fricking kneecap anyone that tries to get into the mud against either Landry or Graves. There will be a unified GOP against him and he will have to defend his liberal record to the "conservatives" that put him in office.

Sounds like you know the writing is on the wall in 2019 and you're just projecting.

You got that right.
He's a clueless country hick that has no idea what he's doing. It's been six months since the floods and he still has no plan for the federal money he got for it despite many people including our congressional delegation asking for one.

Military service doesn't mean shite to governance and having good ideas unless you're running for POTUS or a senator running for a spot on the armed services and intel committees.
John McCain is a veteran with the POW story to boot and he's one of the worst politicians in America and also every thing that's wrong with the GOP.

You forgot the fact that they're not voting against our interests and what we want them to vote for.
Your best friend, Piggy Mary didn't heed that lesson in voting for ObamaCare and she paid a hefty price for that and got her arse kicked by Cassidy

Ive only met him personally once, but I know of his work in the legislature. He is someone that makes an attempt to get to know all of the facts before forming an opinion on an issue, and he has a great ability to ask thoughtful questions. He stood up against insurance companies who were pushing for rate hikes and was able to demonstrate that the numbers they were relying on were pretty skewed.
Whether you are an R or a D, you should at least be happy he is willing to stand up for your personal interests. I hate that his policies include a tax increase, but I believe that there must be some persuasive reason for it if that is the option he chose to pursue.

Spoiler, there's none that serves the public interest.
JBE is only about rewarding his donor pals as much as he can before 2019.

Cassidy had been in the Senate for exactly two years and has a fine record. Kennedy hasn't started yet.
Meanwhile in less than a year we see Edwards has passed the largest tax increase in La. History, failed to reign in spending, committed the state to more spending and wants to raise even more taxes.
2000 miles not 1000, my bad.

Senators are not there to put the state over an economic hump. Where do you people get your ideas of government?

Given that 44% of our insurance premiums go towards meeting state mandates which is a major cause of our higher than average insurance rates in the country says alot that he would rather attack an industry while ignoring the states role in causing high premiums.
