You can claim that it was a stupid program and you would have a good argument
The premise behind it was to help move new vehicles because we had just bailed out several of the big U.S. Automakers. It was probably a wasteful idea for a number of reasons and is worthy of ciriticism.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing the OP’s theory. My understanding is the car engines were absolutely destroyed. It was a bad program on it’s own merits. No need to get goofy.

The truth about Obammy's Cash For Clunkers was exposed shortly after the policy was implemented. What's crazy is the poor folks who got screwed on cheap used car prices exploding still voted for their favorite DSA candidates.
