Russians are hardly woke. They are allowing a dictator to rule them. They don’t seem to care much for western democracy. We complain about our two-party system but it’s better than a one-party rule. Any damn day of the week.

All identity politics. Ideological politics are different, which I think the American dream is. Identity politics is what you are born into and can't change. That is evil and lets me judge you without knowing anything about you. I can judge you for your ideology, because your ideology is tied to your mind. I can not judge you though for being Asian or a woman. It is insane to say such.

I agree with Patrick Henry, I just don't think that what we have now is real liberty.

The dream of it has been, and that dream has kept the people in power somewhat in check. I mean, we really are a Republic and not a democracy, but the people at large believe we're the later, which can be powerful in many moments of our history.

I do believe that "The Land of the Free" is a myth. I can do all sorts of things in China that I'd get arrested for here, and they wouldn't give a single frick. But I do strive to make us the Land of the Free. The dream is alive, and we can not surrender or back an inch. We have far too much as it is, and if anything we need to take more back from the government.

The dangers of a solely identity focused political dynamic is how quickly you get to a battle of in groups vs out groups and dehumanizing the out group. Identities and groups will always be a part of politics, but it's a question of degree. Blacks organizing to push civil rights, a good use of the identity to organize around an issue. Take that idea out to white people are oppressers and responsible for every ill we have and it gets dangerous.
The rhetoric we have now on the political extremes, and the recent hyperfocus on identity and "culture wars" only reenforces the in group/out group dynamic feedback loop and can lead to some dark shite.
Different groups have differing concerns and solutions surely, but the overwhelming majority just want a good life for their family, a decent job to make some cash, and have the country and world get a little better.

Im not a Putin fan. However Putin is a better protectionist for his country than our past globalist, anti American leader was for our own country.
At least Putin isn't dumb enough to push the globalist influx that ruins nations.
