I mean, at some point math has to take over and there's no more hours to work or determination to put forth and housing prices are such that houses are only for those who already have one or multiple, or who's parents have equity in a house and money, right?
Bull excrement.

Huntland Tn. 40 miles from Huntsville Alabama. Several starter homes. If you have a technical degree, you can find a job. Will likely need to be able to get a security clearance, possibly a TS.

Huntsville is a mid size town. Why is that surprising?

If you're making 130K, you can have total payments of 40% of 130K. That is 52K a year, which is $4300 a month. Be modest on your cars, 1 beater and a decent used car ($600 a month). Pay credit cards off. Say you have $1000 in student loans. You're left with $2700 for a mortgage. Payment on a 450K mortgage (nothing down) would be 2550. Assuming you have to pay pmi, you could likely get into a 375-400K mortgage easy enough.

Indeed, boomer. The people your generation have been openly hostile to are beginning to assume power and they won’t be kind to your generation as they gut and eliminate the entitlements you created that have bankrupted the nation.

Remember, boomer. No whining.

What I'm hearing is that people don't want a house. That want THE house they want, IN the location they want at THE price they want to pay.... Good luck.

You’re rage quitting. Most big job centers are located in metro areas much much larger (and expensive) than Huntsville.

Putting 400 miles a week is certainly a great way to save money

You've missed the point entirely.

We're X years in the future and the 90th percentile highest-earning 30 year olds are still only making $130k, but the cheapest starter home/shack/tent available in the entire country to either build or buy now costs $1.2 million. It's also now illegal to cut down trees to construct your own log cabin.

Would your advice to 30 year olds everywhere still be, "It's all up to you, work longer, smarter, and harder and then you might be able to buy a home like I did"? Or there's something very wrong here?

If the first one, how expensive would that cheapest home in the country have to be for you to put the onus on the decision makers to fix?

I don't know. I drive 67 miles one way. Drive a 2011 Ford Fiesta that I bought with 160K on it for 3200. It had just over 299500 this morning when I got to work. It gets 42 miles to the gallon. At this point, that beater has paid for itself multiple times. I bought a 2000 sq ft brick ranch with 2 car garage on 54 acres for less than a brick home 2/3 the size on a half acre in the town where I work.

That's not reality. If you get a technical degree, you'll get a good job. My advice would be don't get a shite degree. Or don't a degree at all and become HVAC, Electrician, Plumber. Get some experience, then open your own business.

It's just how things work. Prices go up. It's no ones responsibility but YOURS to improve your value to a company.

You should’ve opted for a 2005 fiesta if you were serious about spending.

Don't even know what that means. Honestly don't care either.

Sounds like there is not much benefit to living in those "metro areas" if you can't afford a home.... Move to a smaller location, with a lower cost of living. Make less money and actually buy a decent small home. Will likely have more disposable income due to lower cost of living.

Again you talking about what people "Want". Like my late father would tell me "Want in one hand and shite in the other. Let me know which one gets full first". It pissed me off and I didn't want to hear it. But he was 100% right.
