I'm not dismissive of anything in the Bible. It's all the inspired word of God.

I do believe there are different purposes for what God has revealed. For instance, the ceremonial laws were given to Israel to govern their religious worship, set them apart as holy from other nations, and (most importantly) to point as a guide or signpost to the coming messiah. When Jesus obeyed the law perfectly and became the once-for-all sacrifice, those figurative sacrifices of bulls and goats were no longer needed, like a sign post after you reached the destination.

The point of favorite verses is to have ones that make a bigger impression or imparts some truth that provides joy or comfort. It's not a matter of importance but subjective sentiment. A biblical hermeneutic is one that takes the whole of scripture as context for interpretation, not just the parts that fit your own belief system. We are to have our understanding be shaped by the scriptures, not shape the scriptures according to our prior understanding.

Dude this was a problem right as I was a kid and not for much after. There is something called Google where you can read a brief summary even without spoiling it what kind subject matter it contains. This isn’t an issue in this day and age so long as you’re an attentive parent and not a lazy frick.

Nor are almost any Disney movies, nor is your life. The default state of nature is chaos and getting eaten by lions. That’s how most of nature works, we simply defy it.
