They’ve probably been hiding this in their budget. I doubt they’ve been telling congress that they’re amassing their own armed enforcement wing.

It's in the GAO breakdowns, at least back to 1990, so they must be telling someone.

So Trump allowed this?

Surely you don't believe ANYONE has control over these government agencies, right? Bills like this are needed BECAUSE they are out of control.

It came after Gaetz, in interviews with Fox News and other outlets, expressed concern after he discovered that the IRS purchased more than $700,000 in ammunition

Wait until he finds out how much ammunition the Department of Education bought.

I'd settle for wholesale repeal of the 16th Amendment.

No IRS = No need for ammo

Why does the IRS require ammunition?
The IRS Criminal Investigation Division has approximately 2200 LEOs, responsible for criminal law enforcement.

They needs guns and ammo, unless you want them to do their jobs with just a nightstick.

We discussed this in detail (6-8 pages) several weeks ago. It is basically enough ammo to go the the range once every couple of months for a year.

TLDNR: Matt Gaetz is a low-grade moron looking to excite his base.

To me it would make more sense to expand the US Marshals' office and assign those new Marshals to those depts. who believe that they need heat in order to go and investigate some shady individual.
I would rather interact with a US Marshal than a irs accountant with a gun.

They’ll probably argue that this is simply a protective force, possibly for their buildings, but that’s not their job.
The level of sheer ignorance in this post is truly impressive.

And yet your commitment to weaponized enforcement of tax policy the founders found so onerous that it took a Constitutional amendment just to legalize it is...?

This was most likely secret discretionary spending. It’s not like they sent a bill through Congress and then to trump’s desk for the IRS to start buying ammo. Administrative state is still undefeated. SCOTUS has taken notice though.
The IRS has an entire section of its website devoted to Criminal Investigation Division, and the Division has an annual budget of $1.2 billion.

They are not “hiding” anything.
