Mine did too. One of the reasons I can’t stand trump.

There is a line between respectful and obsequious (see Obama). You passed that line. Now your only choice is resistance.

Trump can be a bully. With globalization, he is our bully. Most would agree with turning the other cheek. The obsequious bend over. Most of us are against that philosophy.

Yes, don’t tell cops shite.

You can do this and be respectful, but don’t say shite.

Dad told me when I got a license most cops are good but every force has a guy that just likes to beat people up. Told me to be respectful and we can argue another day that f I was wrongly accused.

Doubled down when I was a little older and told me watch out for New Orleans cops. He didn’t say they were crooked, just impatient...

Oh Mickey Pelosi. You must hate the left if you don’t like bullies.

Of course. Yes sir and no sir. No sudden movements. Always tell the officer what you are going to do before you do it. And never run or fight with the police... You may die!

Yes, my father did. I was taught to never smart mouth a LEO and reply with yes sir and no sir, to any questions ask of me.

That advice paid many dividends throughout my life.

My only encounters with law enforcement have been speed limit violations back in the 60s.

they taught me to respect authority

No. Common morality and respect taught me. I always figured if I didn’t do anything wrong then I would have nothing to fear. It’s always worked. I have gotten a DWI years ago in college and speeding tickets. I was wrong on all those occasions and didn’t fight it.

I’m white as snow. My parents always told me to listen to and obey police officers, even if they were in the wrong. They also told me to keep my hands on the wheel when talking to an officer at a traffic stop. Nothing crazy or unusual about having “the talk” about how to behave around police.

Also, they told me to “yes sir or yes ma’am” them to death.

I've wondered about it many times, did he like the fact that I still thought of My Parents first? The question was "who do you belong to?"

I would say both. The latter most likely carried the most weight though.

Slowly, calmly, and with respect. Yes sir/no sir. Do whatever he tells you to do. Say what you’re gonna do before you do it. If he asks you any questions other than ones needed to ascertain your identity, refuse to answer without an attorney present. Confess to nothing. Ask if you are being detained and for what reason.

I was taught to respect everyone. First and foremost my parents. So respecting a police officer is just second nature.

This is exactly the issue they are having. Humans regardless of race or gender that cannot respect themselves can’t seem to respect authority or other people. They live like animals it is not a race issue it is a shitty people issue.
