re: Did this ex-gay fellow's genetics change? or is there another explanation?

They also believed there was a gene at one point... now they dont.

Let's assume for a moment that there is no gene. I fail to see how this is in any way a "win" for the "being gay is a choice" crowd among us. If it turns out to be epigenetic instead of genetic, how does that alter the assertion that being gay isn't a choice?
I feel like the conversation has been unnecessarily and unwisely narrowed.

Show me the intelligence gene.
Like the gay gene, IQ may not be genetic either
quote:
new study reveals the surprising fact that most of the specific genes long thought to be linked to intelligence probably have no bearing on one's IQ.
IQ has been rising for the last 100 years, in all regions, black, white, or asian. Recent test show that environmental factors significantly change IQ
quote:
Wahlsten (1997): ? delays in schooling cause IQ to 'drop' 5 points per year ? temporary drop in IQ during school vacations
quote:
Winship & Korenman (1997): ? 2.7 IQ point advantage for each year of schooling
quote:
"Mother Nature has plainly not entrusted the determination of our intellectual capacities to the blind fate of a gene or genes; she gave us parents, learning, language, culture and education to program ourselves with." (Ridley, 1999, p. 77)
quote:
Several recent US studies have demonstrated improvements in children's IQ's by improving the lives of infants in disadvantaged circumstances. These studies employed random assignment of children and families to treatment and control conditions.
These studies selected families with: ? low parental IQ ? low parental education ? minimal financial resources
Even though the children returned to their home environment every day and spent holidays and weekends with their families (mostly unemployed, single mothers) in poverty-stricken neighbourhoods, there were large gains in IQ;
quote:
Most psychologists accept that there are group mean differences in IQ scores for non-culturally-loaded tests. However, these differences are confounded with the effects of SES, e.g.
1. Children with black fathers, brought up in white family - no evidence of lower IQs
2. Adoption studies - e.g. black children brought up by white families only slightly lower IQs than white adopted children (Howe, 1997)

You seem to have put quite a bit of effort into that post, so I feel bad doing this, but...
Is it your contention that genes have nothing to do with base level intelligence?

I would say that intelligence is largely a choice

So the guy says it was harming his health, but you know better? Aids must be a joyride at your house.
The word harming implies a series of acts. It only takes once to get AIDS and he can avoid it by choosing to avoid anal sex, choosing only protected sex with few partners or choosing one healthy life partner or choosing protected sex with one life partner or choosing one life partner and avoid anal sex.

I'm no expert, but isn't anal sex a staple of the gay community?

They staple it too?
Damn, I have heard of fisting and gerbils and such but what does stapling do for them?

don't pretend to undertand what makes men sexually attractive to other men
Looking at women is like looking at a beautiful work of art. visually stunning, but cold. Looking at a man is like looking at your favorite couch. Beautiful, but warm and gives one a cozy feeling.
As far as the gastrointestinal issue: no man is large or long enough to cause that. My guess is that it was stress induced.

I've never experienced it myself, but I've never heard from anyone, male or female, that anal sex caused any kind of gastro-intestinal issue. Now, he could be a special case, but guilt cramping strikes me as more likely
Maybe you could do a quick search on this new invention called the computer that has wonderful search engines that can answer your questions about health issues regarding anal sex if you are really interested instead of "interpreting" what you feel is the "truth."
quote:
Anal sex causes constipation for the exact same reasons that large stools cause it — the diameter of even a small erect penis is as large or larger than the maximum aperture of the anal canal. And if the penis is large and long, it also damages the rectum, which is quite small…
And lubrication isn‘t much of a help, because it isn‘t just the friction that does the carnage, but the pressure inside the anal canal that affects anal sphincters, enlarges internal hemorrhoids, tears apart the delicate lining, and damages or desensitizes the super-sensitive nerve endings of the anal plexus.
