The two SuperYanks are here to defend that virtuos, righteous Union cause.

I think I read somewhere that young women would marry them so they could get their pensions after they died
I remember reading an article about a woman in the mid-late 1990s who was still receiving a Confederate pension. She had married some old geezer Confederate officer when she was like 16 during the Depression or whatever and had been cahin' dem checks ever since.
The funny thing is that there was an actual federal office in charge of issuing her (and probably two other old women) benefits.
Can you image some stool pigeon GS-13 federal worker with the title of Director of Confederate Entitlements getting paid to send out three checks a month?

True. The last civil war widow died about ten years ago. She married the old guy when he was about 90 and she was about 20. She died at about 90. It was an arrangement for her to get benefits. But I think he was Union.

Nah, you're just giving your opinion. The whingeing started when you didn't like mine.

I'm just here to call out some typical historical negationism.

I learned it by watching you.

Well, at least you learned something.

Nah, I figured. I've been on the warpath the last few days. I figure I picked up at least a few. Probably Karla.

They know the real traitor to the Constitution was Lincoln. He got his due punishment with a bullet to the head

If you'll notice certain posters, such as BamaSJW and Displaced for instance, just get down voted for posting. It's more about their username in my estimation.
Whiskey Papa is another example.
Displaced is a curmudgeon but is good at heart. He won't like that compliment though.

but if you think they were traitors then you must admit the founding fathers were traitors too...
I think even they would admit they were traitors to the crown.
You take up arms and start marching to Washington DC, you are probably a traitor.

I figured that would trigger you. I think Sherman was a good man. You dont let a wounded animal suffer, you put it out of its misery
Posted on 8/20/17 at 2:17 pm to bamafan1001
Sherman knew an insurgency was on the horizon and didn't have the benefit of all we do now to combat an insurgency with minimal impact on civilians.
He did what he had to do to bring the war to a close, similar to what I consider our use of the Abomb to be.
Doesn't mean he didn't probably commit war crimes, but imo the entire concept of war crimes is silly.

what does this mean? could not find a good answer on google...
and NO - CSA soldiers were not traitors
they were patriots that stood up for their State - which at the time was more important to MOST people (even most Northerners) that loyalty to country
anyone can participate in revisionist history; but those men should be judged by the standards of their time
it's akin to saying that our founders were evil because they were slave owners
