Did anyone shift right as their tax bills increased?

I'll admit until 2010, I never really paid taxes. I had withholdings and got most back as a refund.
Now I'm writing thousands of dollars quarterly and that's not counting sales taxes, ad volerum, inventory taxes(bs) and the near doubling of my household property taxes because I claim my home office.
I never really got it before.
Why can't we just have a flat rate?
Why are taxes so complicated?

No.
Ever since I can remember I drove on the left and voted on the right! Safer all around!

Inventory taxes are some bullshite. I owned a predominately service type business but we started selling a product that blew up. Had to start keeping inventory to keep up with demand and learned I was supposed to pay tax on it. “Supposed to”. Was enough that I could still pretend I was preserving as needed

Absolutely. Once you start writing actual checks to the govt large enough to purchase a brand new vehicle every year, you start paying attention to govt waste, tax policy, entitlements, welfare leeches, and other wastes of money.

It's fun being a liberal in college while a scholarship or mom and dad are paying the bills but it's not fun anymore when they cut you off and you have to start paying the bills yourself.
Me?
My parents paid a lot of my expenses in college and even when it wasn't my own money, I was still very, very frugal about what to spend money on, even got to a point where I only ate one meal a day with some snacks sprinkled in the rest of the day. Never used a credit card. Even had a college roommate complain about how cheap I was.

I first learned about taxes when I was told that the government made more money on a gallon of gas than the oil company, gas station owner, and oil field owners.
They risked nothing, made nothing, and did nothing but threaten to jail anyone who didn’t pay up. Kind of like The Godfather on steroids.

We are products of our environment.
I grew up entitled middle class. It's odd looking back on it. It's nice while growing up but sort of screws you later on.
Like being on welfare.

I've shifted to the left if anything. Although taxes do suck.

quote:OK. You were in college, now you have a taxable income.

quote:So many questions. But all of those are state and local. Having a flat national tax would have zero effect.

Not to mention:
Ad volerum and inventory taxes?
Double property tax for claiming a home office ( usually a bad idea on it's own)?
