4chan has done way more than something like this. This is right up 4chan's wheelhouse. Being a 4channer for over 10 years now I bet it's real. I've seen them do far more crazy stuff like track down.

Here is just a small list of things they pulled off.

Read the list above and then the Avenatti stuff looks very tame and easy
