SFPLC: Texas is to blame for Dem gerrymandering!

The rest of humanity: Dems have been shamelessly gerrymandering since the 80s.

SFPLC: Leave the 80s out of this! Irrelevant!! Pivot!!!!!

If you do the Leftist thing and change what words mean, perhaps

Gerrymandering and the VRA are 2 distinct things.

You do know that Texas had to redistrict because they added five congressional seats. So why in the hell would they draw one favorable to the Democrats?

Looking at Virginia they have overplayed their hand in a state that 54-46 they have obviously disenfranchise people.

And?

The VRA =/= gerrymandering

From both a functional and theoretical level.

Pointing out dishonest NPC talking points is the opposite of being stupid.

One of the biggest jokes was New York gerrymandering Staten Island.

It's literally an ISLAND.

Much of what Congress did to address voting rights during this era mi came in response to decisions rendered by the courts. In Mobile v. Bolden (1980), for instance, the Supreme Court ruled that the decision by the city of Mobile, Alabama, to employ an at-large city commission did not violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act or African Americans’ Fourteenth Amendment rights because, though the outcomes indicated that the system favored White candidates, discriminatory intent could not be proven. Following the Court’s ruling, Black Members of Congress set out to amend Section 2 and supported the inclusion of language in the 1982 Voting Rights Act that allowed plaintiffs to prove a discriminatory effect rather than intentional discrimination in voting cases. Four years later, the Supreme Court in Thornburg v. Gingles (1986) devised a new standard that plaintiffs could use to claim discrimination in districting. During the redistricting process every 10 years, state legislators and the U.S. Department of Justice were required to consider if a politically cohesive racial or ethnic minority group lived in a geographically compact area and whether White voters of the same area tended to vote as a bloc to “usually defeat the minority’s preferred candidate.” The Court’s interpretation of the 1982 Voting Rights Act’s amendments to Section 2 thus created the legal basis for the creation of majority-Black congressional districts throughout the South.8

The 1982 amendment to Section 2 and the Thornburg decision marked a significant shift in how officials drew congressional districts. Previously, legislation such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 had focused on providing minority voters equal access and opportunity. But starting in 1982, the emphasis had shifted to prohibiting electoral arrangements that had the intent or the effect of diluting minority votes. The new legal environment, combined with the growing number of African-American state legislators involved in election oversight and the redistricting process—by one account, 17 percent of all Black state legislators in 1992 served on such committees, significantly boosted Black electoral prospects in the early 1990s.9

What a particularly retarded strawman.

I even explained the recent history of this hyper-specific gerrymandering an no, Texas did not "invent" anything.

Repubs have been disenfranchised in the NE and other blue states for years with zero representation despite having considerable numbers.
