While I agree with the move, it smacks of desperation on his part.

Sounds like fear on your part.

More of this please, we need to move as many agencies out of DC as possible. I give Trump credit for moving Land Management to Grand Junction but we need a LOT more of this.

Agreed. Get as many agencies out if DC as possible.

Possibly one of the dumbest leftist arguments was why this was a bad idea, and it basically pretended like we live life with 1970s technology.

I don't. It's a dumb idea, no offense.

Local culture will not change the nature of a federal bureaucracy. I think the opposite would happen. Keep that crap contained in D.C.

Sure it will. You're allowing the snake to literally conglomerate in one area. This is more than just federal employees. You have lawyers, lobbyists, "think tank" employees, etc. all concentrated in one place.

You spread that out and you diffuse the power of all the parts of the machine. You put these offices around the US and you increase the population of employees who aren't part of a hive mind.

If you read that thread's OP, you'd know why they're different.

You also increase the number of bureaucrats living in the community. These offices would likely be among the single largest employers in any state they land, outside of a few.

They will be well funded and immune from normal economic cycles, making these offices more lucrative and stable places to amass local power and influence. They will change the local culture more than local culture would change them, IMHO.

Do you think the general Iowa populace would favor big budget cuts/layoffs to the Ag. Dept. if its headquartered in Des Moines vs. D.C.?

Which isn't any impact if you remove them from the hive mind. That's the point.

Iowa is a fricking whore to ethanol so they'll suck the tit however they can. That applies everywhere.

Do I think that this hypocrisy would mean they vote DEM more often? No. That's silly. They're hypocrites, but also idealogues re: the party.

You'd be creating a new hive. They wouldn't be totally disconnected to Washington, either, even if they were located in Nome, AK. They know where the paychecks are signed.

You admit that sucking the tit would apply everywhere.

But you don't think these institutions would spawn a population that is beholden to the machine, because the whores are too ideological?

I'm not following your logic here.

Because Republicans and MAGA are not serious about spending, along with DEMs.

You're using talking point language and you need to describe specifically what you're talking about before anyone can answer rationally

Okay. Let's put the Department of Energy in New Orleans.

Now New Orleans would have an office with a budget of $30+ billion, with 15,000 employees making some of the highest salaries in the state.

Sure, they might hire a few locals. But the department would still be headed by appointments from D.C., and overseen by the Executive Branch.

Now you've got one of the most powerful institutions in the state beholden to D.C. The people who work there will be loyal to the machine, not their local culture. As you said, whores are everywhere.

Can you describe how hiring local folks will change any of this?

Agreed. Moving the USDA to a different location will only encourage that location to support the continued existence of the USDA.

How about we dissolve the Dept of Agriculture (along with a couple hundred other federal departments of whatever) and lower taxes on income earners in this country? Why does no candidate ever mention something like this?

He must be talking about moving the Florida Dept of Ag to Iowa, because he has no chance of moving any federal offices anywhere ever.
