He said they were there. I was just saying if they were, they would be able to verify that story

Dershowitz said their visit was right after Epstein purchased the island. So it probably had just not earned that reputation yet at the time. So that being the case (if accurate) then we're simply talking about a free tropical vacation for Dershowitz and his family, having no cause to suspect anything nefarious going on otherwise.

Still, in hindsight, I would think deep down in retrospect he thinks it was not a good look to muse about the cut-off age of consent to be somewhere in between puberty and 18....

Like I said in an earlier post, Dersh's egg-headedness is his own worst enemy most of the time.

If you argue that he's guilty then I'm sure he's smart enough to try and provide himself cover. By taking his family it's a lot harder to believe he'd be doing these things with them there than if he just sneaked over there alone

Isn't that article talking about seniors in high school not getting a 40 year sentence for statutory rape for having sex with freshman and soohomores?

I don't think he was talking about everyone

Yeah, that's how he starts the article out. Notice he also brings up older men having sex with teens and doesn't say anything negative about it at all. He uses the example of teens having sex with other teens because anyone can agree to that. He then uses that to argue that the age of consent should be lowered to 14 or at most 15 with lowered punishments for kids closer to the age of consent. He had a considerable amount of space to use there. It would have taken one line to add in that his proposal should only apply to other young people close in age if that's what he meant to say.

Doc Doogan, you're right, it's an unfortunate look at the current time when combined with these allegations. No doubt. But a couple of things to remember are that he's a criminal defense attorney who dealt then and still deals in mitigating damages for clients accused of things like that. So his authorship of that article was squarely in line with his professional station in life.

And as PaperTiger mentioned, Dershowitz was exclusively talking about statutory rape wherein there was factual consent by the alleged victim, but in the eyes of the law there was not legal consent only due to age. I took from the article that he was questioning the premise behind setting an arbitrary age number on that, and it does ring true in those high school senior with a underclass girlfriend situations. But he also stated that there should be no disagreement that there is indeed an age cutoff, perhaps just no less than 15. And sure, even that would sound wild to some people, and I certainly understand such a position.

This is not a good look for him. He’s calling the girl a liar.

A liar is someone that isn't telling the truth. So, what else are you going to call a female that falsely accuses someone of a sex crime?

I actually respect Dershowitz and think he is a brilliant legal mind- but my biggest criticism of him is he is way too academic at times and doesn't always grasp the appearance aspects of presenting a case (or that a lawyer representing himself has a fool for a client).

So I agree to an extent with what he was saying in that article, but he apparently forgot about it completely in his self-defense or the impact it could have on his attack-his-former-billionaire-client's-victim-defense.

He also didn't consider being impeached by savvy sleuths like Frogglet who scooped 23 year old articles from the bowels of the internet.

guess in theory not hard. But quite often in these situations it comes down to the credibility of the parties involved if there's a lack of corroborating evidence, and I remain highly suspicious of the accuser's credibility versus that of Dershowitz

That's what I keep saying, that he stated he and family's visit there was so soon right after Epstein purchased the island that it completely reasonable to believe that the island had not gained that reputation yet. If there hadn't began the vile activities at the island at the time of their visit, for what reason would Dershowitz have declined an invitation like that? It wasn't yet Pedo Island....it was still just Regular Tropical Island at that point.

I'd have thought by now that people, especially those who would claim to support Trump, would be severely skeptical of sexual misconduct allegations without any other credible corroborating evidence.....specifically in light of what we've seen of the same nature thrown at Trump, Kavanaugh, etc.

Some of you have pretty active imaginations

no one has actually alleged pedophilia, or no one who knows what the word means anyway.

Do you suppose there were prepubescents hanging from trees to be picked at random?

So I've heard. But just not sure I completely believe the authenticity of what we've seen in that regard. I've seen enough fake shite at this point that I find it easy to doubt something like that. But it should be easy enough to figure out in due course. We've all heard about the level of surveillance that was installed all around the island, so if Dershowitz is lying that blatantly about his one and only trip to the island, then he will eventually be busted. But knowing that, about the surveillance capacity there, I just find it difficult to believe that Dershowitz would so brazenly lie about it.

Julie Brown is an investigative journalist at the Miami Herad & wrote a book about Jeffrey Epstein which was then made into a series at HBO.

This Guiffre person, she filed litigation seeking civil damages, and also authored a book or "memoir" about Epstein's sex program. References Dershowitz but doesn't actually assert that she and Dershowitz indeed had sex. As of this time, personally, I don't find this person credible whatsoever. Financial motivations are very prevalent here.
