Why not try both?

A more apt description is DOGE is like posting the 13th repost on a local FB page that a fire is going on in a general area.

Factual? Yes

Overly helpful or illuminating? Not really to those who study politics

In any way dealing with the issue? No

Then we are on the same page.

Next step:

What spending would you like decreased?

Are you okay with cutting USAID to the bone? Are you okay with cutting Medicare and Medicaid overseas grants? Are you okay with defunding duplicate SS numbers receiving SS benefits?

Is that why judges are stepping in? Because of Facebook posts?

Well I was under the impression that Dems said that they were going for a shutdown

This will be the biggest budget battle in modern American history.

I doubt the RINOs and GOPe will do what needs to be done, but there will be a war either way and a shutdown seems likely.

What did you see on the horizon was going to cause that to happen before Doge came along and started exposing some of these things?

All of it, but it doesn't really matter outside of a few programs

We need to maintain our current levels of tax revenue while significantly cutting the following:

SS
Medicare
Medicaid
Military spending

quote:

Are you okay with cutting USAID to the bone?

Nothing else is significant enough to matter. That's why the flashy objects that are circulated relating to DOGE are a distraction in my eyes. USAID is only $40B a year, a nothingburger. Yet what has dominated the echo chamber the past week?

That is not due to DOGE

That's due to other actions by the executive that may not be fully legal

DOGE hasn't exposed anything that people who understand American politics already knew, and it hasn't exposed anything significant enough to matter, at this point.

But here's the deal...is Representative Jaret Moskowitz sincere here? I doubt it. He is setting up the narrative that the Republican Speaker Mike Johnson will continue to fund waste, fraud and abuse which will piss off the MAGA base and fracture us as a party.

Well he ain't wrong.

Then the DOGE audience is not you. You are way too informed for the DOGE audience. The DOGE audience via Trump is for the less politically informed.

Trump cannot build a consensus to effectuate congressional spending cuts by just focusing on an audience of SFP.

That's just access. I thought we were talking about actions relating to spending (like freezing foreign aid).

As for that, same thing, they may not be acting legally (just like the formation of DOGE itself)

Bread and circus.

Well, there's a related discussion to be had about that, but we can table it for another thread to not derail this one.

I'm also about to need to shower and get to the office.

Great, since it's a nothingburger cutting is should also be a nothingburger.

Maybe because it was first on the block and maybe because a lot of bullshite NGO funding has been revealed.

Is it okay for DOGE to enter SS, Medicare, Medcaid and Military spending now?

Or is that off the table because they started with USAID which was a nothingburger in your mind?

We ran a $1.7T deficit in 2023. When the 2024 numbers come out, it will likely be closer to $2.0 T

$40B is a rounding error

I'll try again...

WHAT DID YOU SEE

As far as finding significant things, you are aware that all of the problems are made up of millions here and billions there? We're not going to find a $9 trillion error anywhere. And if these smaller insignificant things are not exposed nothing will ever be done. But none of us have the understanding that you do... Lol

Go ahead and dodge again.

Great.

Should be super easy to cut then.

Stop defending it.
