There are people on food stamps that eat like this. At least the soldiers aren't freeloaders.

The galley on my Navy base was usually pretty decent. Depended on who was running it. New supply guy in charge, sometimes the quality would slip. On aircraft carriers, depended on the carrier. Did five cruises, on four of them the food was decent. One of them, it was practically inedible. Dropped thirty-five pounds that cruise.

Iirc Rota had good food back in the day

Never went to Rota but knew plenty of squids who did. Spent four or five days on a port visit in Souda Bay, Crete one cruise. Greek wine and Cuban cigars were the chosen vices then.
