That won't stop you from creating and assigning motive, I'm sure. It's a classic tactic.

That fact restricts any human behavior.

Most human behavior hasn't degraded people for the color of their skin, so it's really not an issue most of the time.

That would be one hell of a comedy sketch. A group of miners get stuck in a shaft. Rescuer efforts get stalled when the media sends a camera down and discovers they're all in black face.

Go ahead, name an instance where you think a woman shouldn't get a first trimester abortion if its what she wants.

At the end of the day you believe in some absolutes. You're just trying to fight it tooth and nail because its your best defense at this moment in time.

saying all white people who wear black face for any reason are evil is quite literally degrading people because of the color of their skin.

White face doesn't have same history of black face

Seems like easy answer

Dressing up to appear like a specific black person (like Kimmel as Malone) is nothing like historical minstrel shows. Yet, they get lumped together.

That'd be a pretty big deal if I'd ever said that.

Let’s say yes-

The best part about watching that show with someone who hasn’t seen it is their reaction when he shows up on screen.

I’m just trying to get some context on where the line is drawn. That’s all

What's the line? It's ok for people to make fun of themselves. It's ok for people to make fun of their own families. It's also ok to give someone else a little gentle ribbing when they are in on the joke, or when you're doing it to share a laugh, and trying to find some common ground.

However, it's just plain shitty to make fun of other people to make yourself feel better about yourself. Culture hasn't changed - it's always been this way.

The minstrel shows back in the day, using blackface, were making fun of black people using racial stereotypes because the white people doing it needed to feel superior to black people so they wouldn't feel like shite about themselves for enslaving them, and then otherwise continuing to dehumanize them (in a continued effort to feel superior and thus not guilty) by outlawing ridiculous crap like sharing the same water fountains.

Back then, black people weren't in on the joke, and weren't sharing a laugh with the white people as an icebreaker - but instead they were the butt of the joke. The white people wearing blackface were not laughing with black people, they were laughing AT them. They were mocking them.

That kind of mean spirited mockery sucks. It's not funny. It's embarassing.

Dave Chapelle is freaking hilarious because he made us laugh at how absurd it is that we can't just be comfortable with our own differences. They aren't bad differences. They are just differences. Chapelle laughs at himself, AND the white guys that were in those sketches with him were laughing at themselves. They weren't making mockery of each other. They were having fun together. It's funny because it's not mean spirited, but instead pokes fun at people who are mean spirited.

That's the line. Are you trying to bring someone in on the joke by helping them to see the humor in a themselves, or are you trying to make them feel like shite about themselves so you feel better.

Humor is necessary. When we lose our sense of humor, we are truly, truly lost.

Go ahead and Crawfish all you want.

You: no one deals in absolutes. Life is more complicated than that.

Also you: its absolutely always wrong to use blackface.

Little hypocritical Crawfish boy. Go home.

So, so long as its in good humor, not trying to put someone down, you can do blackface? Or whiteface, or asianface?

If so I'm good with that, I totally agree. It can be done incorrectly, but I also think it can be done correctly.

Good, glad to hear that absolutism like "blackface is always unacceptable" is laughable.

My opinion on the whole thing? White people as a whole are not insecure, we laugh stuff like that off. The only explanation I can come up with for black people being so offended all the time is that they are extremely insecure and must somewhere in their minds feel racial inadequate when it comes to white people.
