Brand new car sold: taxed
Same car sold: taxed
Sold again for 5th time: taxed again
Small biz owner sells widget: taxed on profit
Purchaser of widget: taxed using money that was already taxed
The rabbit hole goes deeper

Same thing with property tax. The government has set up a scenario where the citizen doesn’t ever actually own their home, they are only leasing it from the government.
I’ve been saying this for years.
Property tax is EVIL.
“You will never own you property and you will like it.”

We made 220k last year and all those taxes you mention put me at about 70k in taxes paid. That is just an unbelievable number to me.
You are going to have to post receipts. I do not believe these figures at all.
Are you single or married? Self-employed?

Easily 40%.
Effective 25% federal income tax.
9% sales tax.
6% state income tax.
I’m already at 40% and I still haven’t included property, excise and toll taxes.
That is not how this works, dude.
Do you consume 100% of your take home pay on taxable purchases?
Surely you buy groceries (not subject to sales tax), save some portion of your salary, etc.
I'm not arguing that the tax rates are quite high but like with most things on this board yall go posting outright and easily disprovable things to farm outrage.
You don't need to lie to make your point.

Register said car in new state (depending on the state): taxed again.
I moved from Alabama to Maryland and had to pay sales tax on my cars I brought with me, but at least they gave me credit for what I paid in Alabama so I only paid the difference due to a higher tax rate.
I then moved to Georgia and had to pay the full sales tax again, with no deduction for what I paid it Alabama/Maryland.

If we didn't spend so much on unneeded garbage we wouldn't need to be importing the 3rd world.
If people consume less than the polibard favorite of "muh consumption tax" won't generate enough tax receipts to fund the government....or you will have to have a very high tax rate and thus most people will pay more tax than under an income tax regime.
You don't want a purely consumption based tax regime as everything you buy will be much more expensive and you will pay way more tax.

Some states and local goverments charge sales tax on groceries.
If we have to pay taxes, I'm all for a national sales/consumption tax. That way, you know the true cost of everything you buy and can decide if it is worth it. It also prevents criminals, politicians, and everyone else from avoiding their share. Even drug dealers would pay taxes. Hell, even visitors to our country (legal or illegal) would pay taxes.

The people who currently pay jack shite would pay more than under our current tax system, and that's a good thing.

These are all different transactions. lmao. You are looking at this the wrong way. You tax the transaction in a sales tax regime.
This will be how it works under the muh consumption tax regime that this board sky screams every day for.
You don't want a "consumption tax" system as you will end up paying way more tax.

Cool. I'm not a leftist. I'm just not a brain dead populist like the MAGA wing of this board.
I'm correct on this issue. Keep seething, tho.

If my take home pay is 20% more I'm fine with goods being 20% more because I have control over whether or not I really want to buy those goods.

So now MAGA is in favor of using the government and taxation to "punish" the perceived out groups?

You can keep saying this, but it doesn't make it true. Some people will pay more and some will pay less. The positive thing would be a lot of non-poor people who currently pay nothing will suddenly become some of the biggest contributors. That alleviates some of the pressure from those of us who honestly report and pay more than our share.

No one on this board wants to show an arrogant a-hole like you personal receipts. You will gaslight them to oblivion or just mock them.
Then, if they don't make what you consider to be enough money, you are going to make fun of them.

This is my frickin career dude. I stare at this shite all frickin day.
I am correct that the average person will pay more total tax under a "consumption tax with no exemptions" system.
You are just flat wrong.

Wut?
The super rich generally just save and invest more, which likely won't be taxed under your consumption tax.

Wat? I grew up lower working class and worked my arse off to become rich. lmao. I just make fun of stupid people who deserve mockery.
I have worked with plenty or stupid people who were lucky to be born in the right family. lmao.

I'm in favor of everybody contributing via whatever taxation method we use, mensa. If you view that as punishment that's because you're an imbecile or one of the wagon riders. Or both.
