How did we increase our testing Per day by 200k cases per day over a Just a 2 week span Why are more people randomly getting tested?
Only theorizing here, but as more people return to work (unemployment rate dropping) more people are having to return a negative test to do so, primarily in jobs that can’t be done remotely. Some states are increasing their max capacity in bars and restaurants, requiring more staff free from a positive test.
So while we are seeing a slight uptick in cases, the positive rate is dropping.

It would be interesting to see a comparison of related diseases like pneumonia, flu, asthma, heart attacks, and strokes from this year vs. last year to see how much of all of those are being swept under into covid.

IMHO great numbers. Do yall think there will be an uptick in deaths corresponding to the uptick in cases?
Posted on 10/7/20 at 5:30 am to jeffsdad
Depends on how much that case number reflects true positives and what you believe to be the actual morality rate

Doubtful, because I don't think you have a surge in cases so much as a surge in testing, plus some additional penetration into previously less affected areas (cough, Wisconsin, cough). Positivity has gone way down while cases have been "rising" over the last few weeks. Testing commensurately is through the roof over where we were around Labor Day. Hospitalizations have ticked up some recently, but aren't blowing up. That's your leading indicator, and it isn't pointing towards another death spike yet.
What we're likely seeing driving the majority of the case numbers is an uptick in catching either asymptomatic or very mild cases due to the testing surge.
