Granting amnesty and voting rights to to DACA recipients would be a massive loss to the GOP’s chances of holding the general electorate and would would cost our country. Here are all of the negatives I can think of off the top of my head...

-Send a message to all future illegal immigrants that if you hide long enough, eventually you will get amnesty at no cost
-Risk flipping Texas blue
-Lose all credibility on immigration policy
-Succumb to identity politics
-The enormous cost of social services
-Turning our back on merit based immigrants who worked hard and earned citizenship the proper way

It will be political suicide to trade amnesty for a wall. Illegal immigration plummeted because Trump drew a hard line in the sand, and if he shits on it then it will be all for nothing.

The government needs to do the right thing and deport illegal aliens and fine the shite out of companies that employ them without regard.

What's stopping them from punishing companies who hire illegals?

I mean, beyond the fact that those same companies give money to the gop to not stop it.

Our President plans on trading DACA for their agreeing to fully fund The Wall and ending chain migration.

I think that's actually a good deal since they'll never deport them.

Or embrace reality that you can’t kick out millions of people and win them over to your shared conservative ideals. GOP could be to Hispanics what the Dems currently are. It might be too late, no going back now. Not sure. But be realistic at least that millions of people being deported would be globally destabilizing and completely unrealistic, it’s a pipe dream to sell y’all on. And even better that dream is unattainable so the politicians get the luxury of keeping on selling it to you.

No poor bastard has ever won a war by dying for his country.

He’s won the war by making some other poor bastard die for HIS country.

Make the Dems die on this hill.

I’m ok with granting legal status as long as the wall is fully funded, we move to a merit based system from chain migration, and end the visa lottery. That being said, they should never be granted voting rights. Never!

No, that’s bullshite. They illegally entered in to our country and use benefits provided by our tax dollars while undercutting Americans who pay their taxes and do things the right way. frick that.

The key compromise is a clause that if they want to be able to stay they NEVER get to vote or receive entitlements. Call them "citizens" or whatever but they never get to vote or receive handouts and if that's not good enough for them they can go back and start the process like everyone else is having to do. It's funny I know a lot of people I grew up with, who, because of their parents shite decisions while they were young, have had to suffer for many many years and they never got a bailout. Why should illegal immigrants kids get put on a pedestal ?

The best solution is to make sure the wall gets built and that the "dreamers" do not receive the privaledges and benefits that citizens do. That means no entitlements, no chain migration, no fast track to citizenship, no voting, etc. Many will leave on their own. The ones that keep their noses clean and integrate well will become citizens eventually.

Nothing on its face, but are you proposing virtually open borders with the burden of verifying citizenship to fall on small business?

Don't punish the illegals, but throw American business owners in jail. Sounds like a fine idea.

E-verification can be a simple process and virtually no burden at all on even the smallest businesses. Borders shouldn’t be open but a several thousand mile wall is a pretty impractical way to close them.

Except e-verify isn't fool proof. Hurling your local grocer in jail because he hired a kid using his dead uncles social is a very slippery slope. And are we going to toss the president in jail too for all of the entitlements that go to illegals? Can we arrest educators who allow them in our schools? What's good for the goose...

Liberals always jump on this idea as if kts a silver bullet. This is not the fix to the immigration problem. Perhaps some financial penalties mixed in with a much broader border security and citizenship plan, but this alone only punishes americans and pushes illegals even further into the shadows.

Nothing is fool proof, but there’s ideal and then there’s realistic and workable. No one is getting g thrown in jail, simply fine people that violate it. Make it large enough so that it hurts. Take away their business license from gross offenses. Etc.

Yes broader border security is needed. A wall is a very expensive thing that’s easily overcome though. We need e-verification plus real changes to our immigration laws and lots more boarder guards/tech. Will it stop everyone? No, nothing ever will. It will prevent influxes in the amount of millions of people though.

Simple.

Tell them Dems they can keep the Dreamers.

But they can never be citizens, never vote, and never be eligible for any government aid.
