I learned this on my own at Walmart a few years ago, I went to pickup a new med and they said hey sorry your provider hasnt pre-approved this drug - so they hadnt filled it. I wss like I dont care I'll pay for it which really surprised them. It was 65 dollars. The pharmacist was like hold on let me see what we can do on a self pay with the GoodRX card....11.65 lol. fricking criminals

Walgreens is so shittey, that we couldn’t actively search for lower prices for patients. That was expressly forbidden and against policy . They had to give us the info to put in to lower cash prices
Of course, a lot of people who don’t have smartphones or elderly who can’t possibly figure that out, I’d write the info down and tell them to put their phone on the counter so I could act like I’m getting the info off their phones for the cameras overhead that watch us like hawks

I use a small local pharmacy and they struggle to deal with the PBMs. We've had bills put forward in our legislature every year for many trying to keep the mom and pops viable. Too much money though.
