Sixteen Republican congressmen are asking the General Services Administration (GSA) to reevaluate a $700 billion contract with Citibank as a result of the the financial institution’s “anti-Second Amendment policies.”
The congressmen, led by Indiana Rep. Todd Rokita, sent a letter to GSA Administrator Emily Murphy on Wednesday, asking her to terminate the contract in response to Citibank’s March announcement restricting its clients participation in gun sales.

“In 2017, the General Services Administration (GSA) awarded Citibank a contract of more than $700 billion to partially implement the federal charge card program, SmartPay 3,” the congressmen wrote in the letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Because of Citibank’s new guidelines targeting customers wishing to exercise their legal Second Amendment rights, we urge you to cancel Citibank’s participation in the SmartPay 3 contract, and award it to a company that does not unfairly restrict a customer’s constitutional rights,” it reads

I'm curious what their reaction to Bank of America refusing to lend to gun manufacturers will be.

More government warfare on private businesses. It's pathetic that any conservative could support this kind of shite from congress.

Trumpers: "GOVERNMENT SHOULDN'T FORCE A PRIVATE BUSINESS TO BAKE A CAKE!"

Also Trumpers: "GOVERNMENT SHOULD USE POLITICS TO frick WITH PRIVATE BUSINESS!"

Both cases are shitty.

More like government is actually promoting freedom of the people and not spending taxpayer money with a private business that doesnt agree with upholding the constitution

The government needs someone to handle their Smartpay contract. Citi was involved with the first one in 1998 and is the provider of the current Smartpay 2 contract. Citi will unequivocally still be the provider of the Smartpay 3 contract, but a few politicians want to score a few cheap points.

Government charge card, basically. If the contract runs through 2031, the government may spend up to $700B through the cards.

Obviously this is a government contract, not an overreach into the private sector. I have no problem with tax payer dollars supporting the constitution.

So a government contract picked a private bank for a contact.

That bank makes a business decision that will improve their bottom line.

No bank makes a move without due diligence.

What’s the problem?

, gotcha.

It's who the government chose to process its payments to vendors and to offer credit cards and other products to government departments.

Stupid. Was it warfare against the banks that didn't get this contract in the first place?

A government shouldn't do business with entities that are vocally opposed to its rules of law.
