Now that the offer is out there Limm someone if not us will take it. Certainly would not slap the hand. Just talk about peace, the UN and helping. Ask the UN to be a participant as well to stop the killing and tend the most needy. I think they would stonewall showing theirs colours BTW. Then do what the agreement calls for.

Maybe Trump could cozy up to Kim Jung ung and get North Korean soldiers to be the security force/army for USA mining operations…..

Why not. Putin has North Koreans beating Ukraine….

Normally I'm against US military intervention, and I'm against greed, but Congo came to us asking for help. I think this is something that should be explored. Mainly so that those three legged people don't ever have to emigrate to the US and steal our women.

Just have Eric Prince do it.

So, now we fully support sending (poor) American kids to go die for corporate profits? MAGA said they were against foreign interventions and were America first. In one week I’ve seen full support for Israel’s massacre in Palestine, further bombings in Yemen, support for military action/regime change against Iran, and now they support intervening in African civil wars to line the pockets of corporations. Let’s face it, the Bush supporting neocon chumps simply just rebranded as MAGA.

Are you sure Israel won’t be running Congo at that time? I’m sure they’re running it now, hell. Israel controls Africa altogether.

Does Israel have the minerals?

We know how much Lindsey loves minerals.

The US is singularly built for military intervention and occupation. What the frick are you people talking about?

We are an expeditionary military, not an occupational force. We can seize anything on the planet. We cannot secure it.

DRC is 905k square miles.
That is roughly the size of Alaska (656k) and Texas (268k) combined, minus the Alaska peninsula. For comparison, Iraq is about 170k square miles.

To secure DRC we would have to double the size of our military. We still haven't secured our own border. There's a huge difference between seizing and securing. DRC has a small coastline with a thin strip of land from the coast to its interior. This would be difficult to secure if other forces wanted to harass that supply line, and that is the only supply line available.

Would be potentially be worth it for $24T? Perhaps. We could be looking at $10T or more in profit, you would think, conservatively. It would require securing the nation and removing all the threats in a pretty large radius around the DRC.

An alternative would be to call Erik Prince, take control of the $24T and let Erik Prince come up with a plan. That would be, by far, the cheapest and most efficient way to go. If we don't do this, Russia with the Wagner group may jump on this and take all those resources. Then of course you have China.

This is not something I've looked at in any great detail, but we are fools if we don't investigate this. $24T in minerals is a game changer. The GWOT cost us $8T I think - we might be able to do this DRC gig for half the cost over the course of five years. It would be an enormous effort though. DRC has a population of 111M. When we invaded Iraq I think their population was 30M - we would have to put 1M troops there, bare minimum. Probably 1.5M. That's going to be a $750B per year price tag, just my guess. Most of it being logistics.

To build the force to do this would require years unless we offered massive incentives for discharged and retired personnel to come back without consideration for age and fitness.

The diamonds alone would put us in the black and have historic price drops in the economy. The question is are we considering that some military folks may not comeback alive from stabilizing that area. We'd have to establish a huge military base there and close the border and clean house for the Congo.

This, along with no deep water port, is why Congo, and so much of Africa, has not been exploited for it's resources. It's difficult to physically move large quantities of anything, let alone minerals, in and out of most of the continent. Add in the constantly warring populace, and the juice often isn't worth the squeeze.

Uh, yes it is.

It’s not worth it to me, but I bet we have a lot of former vets who would take jobs as military/security contractors there. It would pay a load of money for sure.
