When slaves escaped from the south and were then protected by abolitionists that were a minority portion of the northern population, the myth is that the north welcomed them with open arms. The reality was that the blacks were hated in the north more than the south. No manufacturing companies would hire blacks. The real tale of reality comes from a visit made to Charleston by a Northern Representative two years before the war. He was shocked at what he saw. The entire city was run by the black population. Shops, delivery, construction all done with no white interference or supervision that could be seen.

The shooting war didn't start to end slavery. The shooting war started because Lincoln's Military Advisors were the most stupid Military Minds from the Military Academies.

It must have been a hell of a start to a chaotic end that day. Pack the buggy with wine and a picnic lunch. Load the Wife and In Laws, cross the river and camp out to watch the south get their butts kicked in battle. Instead, it was a hell of a race back across the river to beat the retreat of the northern collapse, in hopes that the south ended their pursuit at the river. Washington could have very easily been occupied that afternoon. The south wasn't interested in a shooting war ...just leave them alone. Handled differently ... 600,000 dead would have never happened.

You can study with the goal to become a snake oil salesman about the period of can reality. Lee and the other Generals of the South didn't see a future for slavery, but their loyalty was to the state of birth and not so much the American Government.

The Confederacy was the one contemporary state which pulled in the opposite direction. So while it was a slave state, and there is an impossible and strange contradiction there,
Exactly. I gave a list of redeeming qualities for the imperfect US Flag. Deep down we all know there are none for the Confederate flag.

Question: why is Alexander Hamilton, alone among the founders, uniformly celebrated by our nation’s intelligentsia and cultural elite as a visionary founding father?

The FTN guys did a great deep dive on Hamilton exposing the malicious nature of his vision naturally leading us to where we unfortunately are today.

Civil war was over states rights It is well documented Lincoln was willing to concede slavery if the South would not rebel.

You’re making emotional assertions, which I assume bring you comfort?

You’re not dealing in facts, or history.

never liked the confederate flag, in fact I thought it was fricking dumb to have one.

And after all this, the thought of buying one did cross my mind.

For most the flag isn’t about racism or slavery. It’s a symbol of rebellion and a “frick you” to people who try to tell us southerners how to think and live.

Do you have reading comprehension skills problems too? That would explain everything.

This is an incredibly ignorant statement.

“As for the South, it is enough to say that perhaps eighty per cent. of her armies were neither slave-holders, nor had the remotest interest in the institution. No other proof, however, is needed than the undeniable fact that at any period of the war from its beginning to near its close the South could have saved slavery by simply laying down its arms and returning to the Union.”
Major General John B. Gordon, from his book, Causes of the Civil War.

I've always found humor in the idea that a group of people who collectively tend to be Murica AF (LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!) have a such a deep seeded pride for the flag of a hostile nation who did, in fact, "leave it".

Maybe they decided to love it after leaving it.

The St Andrews Cross battle flag was not the national flag of the Confederacy. The Confederate adopted three different national flags during its history and two of them even incorporated the St Andrews Cross battleflag.

Hey people, please read this.

I agree and I'm on the side of the Southerner. The American Empire ruthlessly crushed the South. I find America in 2020 to be an absolutely degenerate place where the worst people in the country have the most power and swiftly are taking away anything "normal" in their attempt to overthrow civilization.

You’re inability to articulate a position says everything. You’re frustrated, you don’t know to respond, and so you lash out emotionally.
