think we are on the same page. We aren't starting from DACA has to stay. We are starting from "We, Rs, would like them to stay too".
My opening offer would be:
-Permanent status for dreamers but no voting or entitlements
-Nationwide e-verify
-deportation of all illegal non dreamers or their parents.
-end to birthright citizenship
-wall funding

Is your starting point that you don't want them to stay? That indeed is a completely different negotiation. All hammer
I don’t understand how it can be considered extreme to deport illegal aliens.

Allow dreamers to stay. Committing a felony gets you deported. Government healthcare services should be contingent on willingness to be put on the path to legal citizenship.
A literal wall isn't feasible, but not one inch of our borders should be left unpatrolled or defended. Enforce existing immigration laws.
Immigration lottery and chain immigration should have never been part of our immigration policy.
We need more Common Ground Threads. Good idea.

Agreed, but they never become citizens and cannot ever vote without going back to country of origin and entering the legal way.
That's a possibility. I don't see much wrong with that other than the Dems won't go for it of course.
This is how to put the lie to these assholes. They only care about votes.

I believe both sides agree (for the most part) that these "Dreamers" should be allowed to stay.
You believe incorrectly. If Congress, Obama whomever thought this was such a great idea, there would have been a path to citizenship created. The DACA EO, just passed the buck.
quote:
then it's up to Congress, not the President, do put forth a bill that does that.
Twice under Obama Congress refused to do this; hence, the EO. Immigration is kryptonite for Dems. They want the votes, their constituents don't necessarily want illegals given an easier path to citizenship.

What are you willing to give up to get this deal done.
Nothing. If they are here illegally and they don't qualify for citizenship, they get deported.
quote:
What is absolutely a non-starter for you?
chain immigration; visa lottery. Follow the rules or stay home.

I don't. But I will make some concessions.
1. I don't think their property should be confiscated.
2. I don't think they should branded on the forehead with the word "illegal" before being sent back to Mexico.
Now, what you gonna give me in return for those compromises?

I disagree. They should ALLl be forced to leave and reapply. If any have so much as a speeding ticket, they should NEVER be allowed back in.
No more chain migration.
No more random lotteries.
No more refugees of any kind.
The only people who should be allowed in are highly skilled workers of which we currently have a shortage who are already English speakers and have an employment sponser.
Anyone who broke the law to come here should be exiled yesterday.

After you didn't enforce this law for 15-20 years.

The Congressional leaders want the "Dreamers" to stay, although why the hell Republicans would want that is beyond me.
I want to end birthright citizenship and chain migration, period. If that's for the offering, I can live with some accommodation of the so-called "Dreamers" in that - they can stay, but they can never become citizens (or, if they do every single thing right, maybe in 25 years).
Tell me where I'm crazy and bigoted.

Not willing to give up shite
D's want them here for political gain, nothing more/nothing less.
Original agreement was illegal anyway.

That is a major, and incorrect assumption on your part.
But I am willing to do a deal.
I'll give the DACA illegals renewable three year work permits in exchange for:
A fully funded wall.
The end of chain migration.
The end of the diversity visa lottery.
A 75% cut in legal migration to the US.
A ban on all migration by Muslims (yes, a religious litmus test).
E-verify.
End birthright citizenship.
All to be implemented within three years or the DACA illegals don't get renewed.
What say you?

here's what I don't understand from those against the wall for my 52 years of life the American dream has been a family, a job, and house with a white picket fence. you know why because the old adage good fences make good neighbors is true.
Those opposed to the wall are just deluding themselves by thinking that compassion will overcome any negative results from open borders while failing to realize they are condemning 2 groups of people, poor Americans and immigrants to perpetual poverty and servitude.

Both sides do not agree that Dreamers should be allowed to stay . Hard for Republicans to get much from the deal if they open up by saying they agree Dreamers should stay in America.

Immigration lottery or anything similar. I think if you want to come into the country...legally...it shouldn't be random selections. Show me some value why. Hell, for me to migrate to England, I have to show that I have an income to support myself.

Any thing resembling a wall not paid for by Mexico. Not a single honest Trump supporter will admit that when he thought a wall was coming that it would be built by taxpayers.

Allow DACA to continue indefinitely. No path to citizenship though.
Allow Voter ID laws to go into effect in 2019.
Allow another corporate tax cut to fund border security. But not a wall.

Sounds like a great idea. We can let the dreamers with jobs stay and depart all of the welfare kings/Queens . I think republicans would agree to that but Democrats wouldn’t .

Are you going to up date the list ? Seems like some good ideas from both sides.
